Our TOP 10 South West Beaches

For all you beach addicts out there, it’s time to reveal our Number 1 Best Beach in the South West!

After a poll across our offices we put together our Top 10 and the results have been varied; with large & small, secluded & easy access, dog friendly & family friendly, there’s been something for everyone. In fact our top beach also has something for everyone, which we think is probably why so many of us love it.

1) Bantham Beach, South Devon:
Facilities: Car park, toilets, surf school, café
Dogs: Allowed in some areas, restrictions on main beach during high season
Lifeguard Cover: Yes, May-October

Bantham was in a recent Travel Editors’ UK Top 10 Favourite Beaches and came out top for us too, and here’s why: At low tide this estuary beach provides a huge expanse of sand enjoyed by families and watersports lovers alike. This means that whilst it can be busy in the summer, you won’t struggle to find your own space. Known for being a surfing beach, this is a great spot for a lesson or simply spectating as the surfers and kite surfers take on the waves.

Bantham has a large car park, toilets and a mobile cafe which serves food and drink most days throughout the holiday season. The beach has RNLI lifeguard cover from May to October and we do recommend that you stick within the lifeguarded areas when swimming. There are dog restrictions on the main beach during the spring and summer months, however, they are still welcome beside the estuary. If you visit at low tide this will maximise the space for your dog to run around, or off season they can enjoy the entire beach.

From Bantham you look across the water to neighbouring Burgh Island and Bigbury on Sea, and for even more spectacular scenery the South West Coast Path is easily accessible. If, after a brisk walk or a day on the beach, you feel you deserve a treat then we suggest visiting the village pub for a pint or a hearty meal.

Longfield offers exceptional views of our number 1 beach!

For large gatherings then why not stay in stunning Longfield or why not try Burnt House?

We’re sure that you’ll find a beach to suit your needs from our Top 10, but remember that this is just the tip of the iceberg as we have plenty more miles of sand and coastline in the West Country for you to explore during your visit.

We hope that you’ve been inspired by our Top 10 beaches and we’re sure that you’ll enjoy deciding which stretch of beach is your own personal favourite. If you’ve got your own favourite beach in the area, why not visit our Facebook page and let us know?
