Stunning is the only word to describe the location of 2 Ivy Cove. Lannacombe Bay is one of the most beautiful unspoilt stretches of coastline anywhere in England, where dramatic cliffs fall away to sandy coves and the coastal path clambers its way from Start Point to Salcombe and beyond. No. 2 is the middle cottage of three attached coastguard cottages built by the Admiralty in 1903. Owned by the same family since the 1940's it's a much loved family home, a little rough around the edges but still provides cozy, practical, no frills accommodation in a simply glorious spot, well away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottage will suit those who want access to the area and aren't too worried about all the comforts of modern living, prefering the simplicity of an earlier time. There are two fine beaches on the doorstep, one shingle and one sand, both good for swimming and perfect for rock-pooling, beach art and family use. Walking is unsurpassed with the South Devon Coast Path at the bottom of the garden.
Glazed door that opens directly into a small kitchen. Well equipped with painted wood units, there is an electric ceramic hob, built-under electric oven, washing machine, microwave and large fridge/freezer. Adjacent WC. Large living room, bright and cheerful with rugs on the polished wood floor, two large sofas, a chair, new inset woodburner stove, flat screen wall mounted TV with Freesat, DVD and stereo CD/tape player. A solid fuel Rayburn (use is optional, for those familiar with Rayburns) provides background warmth, hot water and an extra cooking facility. There is a large dining table to seat up to 8 and a pretty dresser. Double bedroom with 4ft 6in bed, fitted cupboard and superb sea views with the sound of the sea breaking below to lull you to sleep! Further small bedroom with 4ft bed, hanging hooks and views to the rear of the cottage. Small, basic bathroom with bath, hand held shower, basin and WC. Second floor: A family bedroom which provides flexible sleeping arrangements with a 3ft bunk beds and a 4ft cabin bed. Cupboard on the landing provides hanging space.
A fairly rough track leads from Lannacombe Beach to the coastguard cottages and the area surrounding the three cottages is reached by a gated driveway and is enclosed by low walls and hedging. The grounds are not divided between the cottages (one of which is residential), and the area in front of No.2 is for the use of the cottage itself. A large picnic table on the front lawn overlooks the sea. There is a raised area at the rear which provides a communal clothes line and sun loungers are kept in the ‘washhouse’ alongside this area. A gate on the edge of the grounds of the cottages allows access to a path down to Ivy Cove beach below.
Parking for two cars adjacent to the cottage. As this parking area is shared with 1 Ivy Cove consideration should be given to maintaining access. Further parking (chargeable) is available on Lannacombe beach but this can be restricted due to limited availability and there is strictly no overnight parking.

We loved our stay. It would be great if 2 Ivy Cove could have access to the new games room that goes with 1 Ivy Cove. The maps and information in the cottage were excellent, thank you.
We love Ivy Cove, our second visit didn't disappoint. Such a wonderful unspoilt cottage and the most amazing location. We hope to have many more visits.
The views are amazing and the peace and quiet. Having both cottages was excellent for us. They compliment each other. No. 1 has a dishwasher and more comfortable beds. No. 2 has a better kitchen, a wonderful wood burning stove for chilly evenings and a bigger TV. It would be even better if there was internet coverage but my husband did manage! Definitely hoping to return.
Ivy cove is amazing - we really loved our week there. The only suggestion for the cottage is a bracket and shower curtain for the bath, so that the shower can be used as a shower and not held by hand - it was tricky and sprayed all over the floor! Other than this the cottage is cosy and comfortable and we wouldn't want to be be more glam or updated, it's suits is family seaside setting very well.
2 Ivy Cove is a hidden gem. The location is absolutely perfect and the cottage itself a delight. Loved the hardwoods, rug, maps, fireplace, and the seaside views. Some of the minor furnishings are a bit of an interior design oddity (the easter egg craft tree and the items on the mantle--strip those away and it would be a dream). The rooms were marvelously simple and the linens fresh. Everything was clean and comfortable. 2 Ivy Cove sits right on the edge of the sea with a winding path down to the shore. We arrived at night and were ecstatic to discover the incredible views in the morning. Everything is very private, and you feel like you own the place. The coastal path is right outside the door with walks to Start Point Lighthouse and Beesands (with its incredible Brittania on the Beach seafood restaurant and retail--we bought some sea bass, prawns, and crab to prepare at the cottage--so fresh!) in one direction and Prawle Point (an incredible sweeping view of the sea) in the other. Head into East Prawle on your way and enjoy The Pig's Nose pub. Fab! Also, we heartily recommend the Millbrook Inn in South Pool. Amazing food in a stunning environment. It's only a short drive from the cottage. We couldn't have been happier with the cottage. Hope we can return someday.
