At the mouth of an unspoilt creek on the eastern shores of Kingsbridge Estuary, is the village of South Pool, once described as “the loveliest piece of waterway in the district.” The village is served by a magnificent 13th century church and the award winning Millbrook Inn. Surrounded by tumbling hillsides and pretty hamlets, and far away from main roads, this historic settlement is adored for its thatched cottages and old cob walls. Nestled in the heart of the village is The Cyder House, a traditional country cottage with original stone features. Behind the cottage is a gorgeous sunny terrace and barbecue area with lovely views over the village rooftops. It’s also one of our dog-friendly cottages. The Old Smithy is a characterful cottage with a pretty garden terrace that backs on to a gentle brook and wildflower meadow. A few miles towards the coast are the golden sandy beaches of East Portlemouth, where the sailing town of Salcombe is only a ferry trip away.
