This pretty thatched 17th century cottage is tucked away down a quiet lane near the centre of the delightful village of Slapton, close to the 3 mile beach and Nature reserve. Extensively refurbished yet retaining the period features which make the cottage so attractive, guests will appreciate the comfortable sitting room, as well as the separate dining room and modern kitchen that both open onto the sheltered, sunny courtyard and small garden. Slapton’s two excellent pubs and well stocked village shop are a short stroll away and one of many pleasant local walks will take you to the long shingle beach that curves around Start Bay.  There are plenty of coastal walks with amazing views and the cottage is perfectly placed as a very special base from where guests can explore the surrounding villages, countryside and beaches of this beautiful area.

Stable door into beamed sitting room furnished with 2 sofas, feature fireplace with electric stove effect heater, LCD TV with DVD. Doorway to dining room with oak table and chairs to seat 4 and occasional cane chair.  French doors to rear courtyard. Archway into the most attractive, slate floored shaker style kitchen with ceramic hob, built in oven and grill, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine and microwave. Stairs to landing and spacious double bedroom with 4ft 6in double bed with luxurious tempur mattress, window seat overlooking the lane, storage baskets, hanging hooks with hangers and LCD TV with DVD. Twin bedroom has two comfortable 3ft beds, which can be pushed together, with under bed storage and peg rail with hangers. Modern family bathroom with bath, shower over, pedestal hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.

There is a sheltered rear courtyard with garden table and chairs, an outside cloakroom and steps up to small lawn and garden seat with pretty views of the village.

  • Local Facilities: Beach and National Nature Reserve half a mile. Blackpool sands 3 miles. Other South Coast beaches e.g. South Sands, Smalls and Sunny Cove at East Portlemouth easily accessible by car.  Pub, village store 250 yards Kingsbridge or Dartmouth with all facilities both 8 miles.

The cottage was warm, cosy and comfortable and ideal for our stay. Also very clean. The furniture was comfortable. As mentioned the hob was not in great condition although it did work. I am a very keen cook and there were just about enough utensils and equipment in the kitchen for me to cook Christmas dinner and big meals throughout our stay but I was not able to make any cakes or desserts as there was not sufficient utensils to enable me to bake (family had to put up with Tescos finest range of cakes!). Had a panic at the start of the visit as the fridge did not appear to be working but it just turned out that the light was not working and the temperature needed to be turned down. Was able to reach the caretaker easily regarding issues mentioned above and she sent out her husband promptly which was good however he was a bit snotty when I said I was worried that I had just spent a lot of money at Tescos for the food and we needed to have a working fridge which I did not think was an unfair comment. He did calm down and was friendly by the end of the visit and left us an extension lead to enable us to plug in the electric fire into other sockets and did say we could ring again if the fridge was not working. Loved the location and the friendly village atmosphere plus in walking distance to the beach for nice walks. The parking space was a good size. Overall very happy and had a lovely Christmas in this super little thatched cottage and would recommend. If the issues mentioned in this feedback could be addressed it would be perfect!

We had a great stay in this comfortable, well equipped and very lovely cottage. Slapton village and surrounding area made a wonderful setting for a happy and relaxing family holiday. We look forward to coming back!

Great Easter break. Cottage was as described no complaints. Having WiFi was a bonus, something that wasn't mentioned in any of our correspondence. Overall excellent cottage, would definitely book again :)

Lovely cottage in a great location to explore south Devon. Nice touches like milk in fridge on arrival. Good quality of bed, bedding, towels and crockery etc.
