Kingston is a charming South Hams village, very much off-the-beaten-track, with a good pub, a church, lots of pretty thatched cottages and is just over a mile from the River Erme’s beautiful wooded estuary and, at low tide, miles of good sandy beach at Wonwell and across the estuary at Meadowsfoot Beach and Mothecombe. Apple Barn is tucked in the centre of the village, a large, detached and very comfortable family home, with an acre of spacious gardens. This is an ideal family base with a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, which may be suitable for those with walking disabilities. Doorstep walks to the beach, a pub around the corner, a large garden to play in and superb walking on the nearby coastal path - something for everyone.

Ground floor: Spacious, attractive and most comfortable sitting room with wood block floor, generous sofas, chairs, TV with DVD/video player, CD player, table for games or extra dining, a fireplace inset with a wood burner and flanked by bookshelves. French door to a paved patio area and the garden. Well equipped kitchen with Aga with double oven and twin hobs, electric oven with ceramic hob, pine dresser, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, stripped pine floor and large dining table to seat 9. Utility room with sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, extra freezer and door to courtyard. Downstairs bedroom with twin 3ft beds, pine furniture and stripped floor with rugs. Adjacent bathroom with bath, electric shower over, basin and WC. Stairs to landing and 4 bedrooms. Large master bedroom with 5ft wrought iron bedstead and large windows with garden views. Adjoining cot room with mirrored wardrobes and en-suite shower room with large shower enclosure, basin and WC. Bunk bedroom with full size 3ft bunks. Single bedroom with 3ft iron bedstead. Double bedroom with 5ft king size bed, fitted cupboards and hand basin. Family bathroom with bath, electric shower over, basin and WC. Please note: this property offers a low/mid season discount to smaller parties of up to 6 guests.

Large  enclosed gardens extend around two sides of the house with mature shrubs, trees and sloping lawns. A paved patio area is provided with garden furniture, a greenhouse and a rockery.

Private driveway leads to a parking bay for 3 cars opposite the gate to the gardens.

  • Included: Bed linen (not towels), WiFi, cot, high chair, basket of logs, central heating (oil) and electricity.
    Towels may be hired from an independent local company, please enquire for details.

Apple Barn accommodation was just what we wanted, and the general level of equipment excellent. Local services of caretaker prompt when needed. Really good walking area... weather mixed but did not hinder us. A thoroughly enjoyable Christmas holiday

We stayed in Apple Barn as an extended family party of 4 adults and 3 children, and thoroughly enjoyed our week in South Hams. The house is absolutely lovely- so much better than the average holiday let- it feels like a home, tastefully decorated and superbly equipped. The house is spacious and the well-kept garden is huge. Access to the amazing beaches and lush countryside is easy, and the village is pretty, quiet and welcoming. We would love to return and would recommend Apple Barn highly, and without reservation.
