Description

Set in six acres in a beautiful sheltered valley this ancient farmstead is now a small group of charming cottages that hug the side of a gentle slope that rambles down to the beautiful tidal creek of Goodshelter. Here you can wander through the apple orchard to the 800 ft private foreshore, row one of the dinghies provided round to South Pool to the pub (tides permitting!), barbecue by the old lime kiln on the foreshore and revel in the views of this dreamy stretch of water. The tiny hamlet of Goodshelter is on the edge of the Kingsbridge/ Salcombe estuary just a mile from East Portlemouth, the lovely beaches of Millbay and Sunny Cove and from there, a ferry ride to the popular town of Salcombe. The cottages are alongside a courtyard shared with the owner’s home, overlook an orchard that slopes down to the Creek and provide very comfortable, well furnished and flexible accommodation.A Wayfarer sailing dinghy is available for use by the experienced as well as a couple of rowing dinghies, but entirely at guests' risk, (ask for details).. Apple Tree Cottage is welcoming, bright with vibrant colours and enjoys its own pretty garden. Windfalls is an ideal spot for two and with its level access is also suitable for disabled and wheelchair users. Between the two cottages and attached to Windfalls, although entirely separate, is what in family parlance has become known as The Love Shack! This little nest can be let at extra cost with either of the other cottages but not on its own. This delightful set of cottages can be a haven for couples, a great spot for families or indeed a wonderful place for a large family celebration, all in the most idyllic position. There is a shared laundry room accessed from the courtyard with chest freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board. The gravelled courtyard in front of the cottages is enclosed with a five bar gate and provides ample parking. From here a pathway leads through the orchard to the creek.

Apple Tree Cottage is a most attractive detached cottage with all rooms enjoying views across the orchard to the creek beyond.

The Love Shack
Windfalls or Apple Tree Cottage can be let combined with The Love Shack at an extra cost and availability permitting.

Please Note: At spring high tides (which occur throughout the year) and for one hour either side of high water, it may be difficult crossing the fords on the tidal road that accesses the property.  Tide Tables will be forwarded to guests with their travel directions

September 2018

Yes had a lovely week. But on arrival had to do a shop of things I thought would be provided & also had to get cleaning stuff to give the house a good clean!

August 2018

Fantastic property that exceeded expectations despite having visited it before. Washing machine and dryer room excellent. Didn’t bother us at all but, since you ask, the kitchen pans/knives etc a little limiting.

September 2017

Excellent stay. Smashing house in a really interesting location. Lots of space and nice and homely. Left the car parked up pretty much all week and walked and took ferries. I think the previous occupants had a white dog, quite a bit of which was left on the living room rug! Not a big problem but...

September 2017

We all thought it was the best holiday we had had in ages. Amazing cottage and location (apart from the scary driving!). It was such fun to mess about on the boats and BBQ by the waters edge.

July 2017

Fantastically peaceful spot and particularly good for messing around in boats and swimming either side of full tide.

April 2017

It was very nice to be welcomed by the owner and to discover a very generous cream tea had been left in the kitchen. It was also nice to be able to use the owners rowing boat. The cottage was spacious and clean and well decorated. The only minus was that the beds were not very comfortable. The two single beds had two mattresses each which made them rather wobbly without a firm base.

Thank you for your comments, sounds as though you had fun on your holiday. We'll look into the mattress arrangement on the single beds and see what we can do to improve the situation. Thanks for your feedback and hope to see you again soon. The Toad Hall team.

April 2017

The heating is pretty powerful. It would be nice to get a little more guidance on how to turn it down.

Thank you for your feedback. We'll have a look at the heating instructions provided, but glad you enjoyed your stay at Apple Trees. Lovely spot isn't it? The Toad Hall team.
