Really enjoyed our trips to the Turfcutters Arms when staying just down the road. Friendly landlord (and locals) welcoming to us and dog, fantastic sized garden with lots to do, play area and snooker table for kids, loads of space, pretty flower hedging; just a really nice place to while away a sunny afternoon. Didn't eat there but was busy at lunchtime so assuming pretty decent!

A very busy and popular pub with pleasant staff and varied menu (just a 5 minute walk from our accommodation). We had a problem with our meals on our first visit which was dealt with promptly and without fuss. The second visit was 100% fine. We can recommend the 5 mile Turfcutters Arms circular walk.

Fabulous breakfasts

April 2022

We visited the takeaway part of the establishment which was nice and friendly and the outside eating area was good but it was very expensive. I think we paid £7ish for an egg mayo baguette and £2.50 for a gingerbread fox biscuit!

August 2021

We visited three times during our holiday for lunch and afternoon tea. Managed to sit outside each time, no reservation needed. Staff were lovely and food was fantastic. Good price, especially for the area and quality.

We stopped here on the way to our holiday cottage.. 3 adults and one toddler. It was a sunny day so we sat outside; the garden was beautiful and well cared for. The food was delicious. Added bonus of a couple of donkeys walking by the front of the pub. With all the room in the garden, a small children’s play area would be a welcome addition.

Really interesting; very welcoming- a lovely place to visit

May 2022

Very much worth visiting

October 2021

This was great! We spent the entire day there from when it opened at 10am until it closed at 6pm. There was so much to see and learn, the children loved the monorail and vintage bus rides and the play area was one of the best we have been to (and we have been to a lot!). The best bit however were the two talks given by the Palace House falconer about his birds and what they do. It was so informative and amazing - the bloke needs a payrise!

August 2021

Interesting visit but expensive. The children’s play area was excellent.

Enjoyed a day out at Beaulieu, reasonably quite as out of school holidays and we were able to take advantage of the monorail, the bus and easy access to the exhibitions. Also took a walk around the Mill Pond walk which gave a fabulous view of the Pond at Beaulieu and over to the bridge. We also took advantage of the free return to revisit the main exhibition on a very wet day enabling the motor fan more time to read all the information .

October 2023

Fabulous day out. It’s not cheap to visit but we really enjoyed. May not be suitable for young families. Only downside was that we went for lunch at the cafe and they had stopped serving hot food at 2.30pm and all the sandwiches /wraps had gone. Only cakes left !

September 2023

Having been to the excellent Motor Museum several times before, we decided to upgrade our annual pass and visit the sculpture exhibition which is on until September. We can thoroughly recommend this extra attraction, we are not usually into culture but the variety of topics and designs was fascinating and very enjoyable, recommended. The cafe is also very good.

June 2023

An enjoyable way to spend a day (or more!) lots to see, as well as the motors the gardens are beautiful, we found the wartime spy exhibition really interesting and surprising! Arrows to steer round the main exhibition much appreciated- it's a bit of a maze! Top marks to the staff - everyone was friendly, helpful, informative and welcoming, made the visit extra special.

June 2022

Outstanding, very interesting, and staff were friendly and made visitors welcome

May 2022

A very nice day out. Everyone enjoyed it even those who are not so interested in cars.

April 2022

Rey interesting but we thought the museum was past its best and needs some investment

October 2021

A great place to visit for all ages, with the older ones enjoying nostalgic memories of past motoring! It is a good venue if the weather is bad and well worth the entrance fee.

Lots to see and do if visiting all the attractions here.A very good day out.

Fantastic day out for any car enthusiasts

April 2019

Such a great day out! Museum is facinating and interactive. Combined with the beautiful Palace House this is a must do attraction.

September 2018

A good day out - even if you do not like cars! Our grandson particularly enjoyed the museum and the 'Top Gear' attraction. The remains of the Abbey are worth seeing and one can dress up as a monk! Our favourite attraction was the demonstration of falconry - absolutely fascinating and we learnt a great deal about the birds and the history of falconry.

August 2018

Incredible place, well worth a visit (especially if you have a car-mad kid or two!). Really good day out- we did ours the same day as one of their Special days (Alfa day) which was good.

December 2017

A great day out for all the family. We spent all day here and would visit again.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

June 2017

Barton on Sea
(10 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(11 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

Very well equipped kitchen for our Christmas lunch and so warm for Felicity (10 weeks old). Thanks so much!

January 2023

Thank you for a beautiful weekend. The cottage is just perfect and the location couldn't get any better. With our baby due in just over a month and a half, it was the perfect place to spend our 'babymoon'. Wild horses every road you turn and a five minute walk from the forest. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful weekend.

July 2022

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Argentor Cottage - we’d be happy to stay much longer! We’ve been lucky enough to have glorious sunshine all week and the cottage has been a cool retreat in the midst of it all. Cool linens on the beds have made for a very comfortable night’s sleep too. We’ve been pretty lazy but enjoyed visiting Bucklers Hard, Lymington and the amazing sunsets over Hatchet Pond. Would highly recommend the Beaulieu Organic Farm Shop just down the road and enjoyed eating out in lots of places. Our favourites were The East End Arms and The Fleur De Lys at Pilley. Hope to return before too long. p.s. Love the eclectic choice of reading material!

March 2022

As above, gorgeous cottage, felt very comfortable and was a delightful home from home. Great amenities, comfortable beds and sofa, lovely sunny garden. Can't fault it and would highly recommend.

November 2021

The cottage is really well located and has everything we needed. It was very stylish but cosy and comfy at the same time, we loved it! The communication from NFC was brilliant and I wouldn’t hesitate to book through them again, I would recommend them and Argentor cottage to anyone wanting to visit the New Forest.

October 2021

Excellent

October 2021

We all knew we needed a holiday but I don’t think we knew how much we needed it! What a wonderful place to press the reset button and refill our cups. The cottage has been a beautiful, peaceful base; a masterclass in neutrals and filling with things that bring joy. The New Forest is a very special part of the country; so much beauty and such variety in such close proximity. We have done so much and the memory bank is well and truly topped up.

October 2021

Thank you for such a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage. It’s set in a peaceful location and we loved the style and decor. The cottage is so well equipped - everything you need for a week away. There’s so much to do in the area (don’t think we ever drove for anymore than 30 mins) and we left feeling there were still things we wanted to do and discover. A perfect week away from London. We’ll be back for those things we missed!

October 2021

To start with, the area is beautiful, so it was already a winner! We were lucky to see lots of baby donkeys near, which was lovely. The cottage is the perfect, cosy size with comfy beds and a traditional integrity despite the necessary modern features! We were very pleased with everything, especially the ‘goody basket’ and kitchen utensils as we have missed this on other occasions in previous holiday homes.

August 2021

We had a wonderful week at Argentor Cottage. Beautiful house and garden with everything we needed. We hardly wanted to leave the cottage, but managed to see so much of the New Forest too - boat rides, sea swimming, fort-exploring and of course pony spotting on the doorstep too, to name a few. We’ll be back!

It was brilliant, everything a New Forest holiday should be. Probably our last family holiday with my now almost grown up children and we couldn't have asked for more. Loved it :)

May 2021

We have been absolutely delighted with our stay at Argentor Cottage. The quiet setting in a lovely location was ideal, and the interior of this chocolate box property was a real home from home experience. Thank you to the “Argentor Cottage Team” for their attention to every detail and high standard of cleanliness.

January 2021

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. We had the most relaxing few days here and absolutely love what you have done - you have a beautiful eye for interiors.

January 2021

The cottage and garden are beautiful; tucked away at the end of a lane, so peaceful, quiet and private. The interior is pretty too, all rooms are decorated beautifully. The master bedroom is fabulous; luxurious and comfortable, we slept like logs! The kitchen was very well equipped for the few evenings we self-catered. Ideally located for walking or cycling (on and off road) and exploring the surrounding area. We parked the car on arrival and cycled everywhere during the day. A wonderful, relaxing holiday, we can’t wait to return for another “slice of heaven”.

November 2020

We have enjoyed a wonderful stay at Argentor. Cosy, warm and luxurious- with so many thoughtful touches. Rare to find a self catered place that has the feel of a 5* hotel. Absolute indulgence! We leave here feeling refreshed. Thank you !
