Battery Cottage is built on the site of a 14th century fortification that still retains evidence of a dry moat, and this delightful retreat for two, part of the owner's home but totally separate, is set in an unrivalled position overlooking the mouth of the Yealm estuary. Here the South West coastal path passes the front of the cottage with quite exceptional views to steeply wooded banks and the deep clear water that surrounds the headland and on out to the Great Mew Stone that guards the entrance to the Yealm with the sea beyond. A fairly steep path leads down to a shingle cove, ideal for swimming and just 300 metres walk from the cottage. Walkers will revel in this wonderful spot, or the romantic of heart can sip a glass of wine while watching the sun setting over the sea from Cellars beach. The cottage, all on one level, is deceptively spacious and beautifully presented with lovely oak floors, tasteful and attractive furniture, furnishings and everything provided with comfort and privacy in mind. Perfect for a couple or young family with babe in arms most welcome. The cottage is supplied with its own fresh spring water. A welcome hamper is provided to greet you on arrival.
SHORT BREAKS may be available at this cottage during the low and mid seasons. Please call Toad Hall Cottages to book.

We enjoyed our stay but found the track to the property challenging. We feared meeting another vehicle from the opposite direction & having to back! Cars parked in passing places at the wk end made it nigh on impossible to pass anything! The property was very well equipped & all very clean & homely. We would not have chosen it if we had realised how difficult it is to get down to the beach. My husband being disabled found it limiting . But we have no complaints about the actual property. It has taught us that we must take more care in finding a property more suitable for us.
had a lovely stay at the cottage the owners very welcoming this cottage not ideal if you are wanting to use the car to go to places as the roads very long and narrow, there are some lovely walks from the cottage you cannot see the sea from the sitting area in the garden and it is by a very busy footpath so not private (it is a coastal path)and the sitting room on full view there is no mobile reception or wfi ,which is ideal if you are using this cottage as a winding down holiday but not suitable for anybody who needs to stay connected
Many thanks for your comments, Battery Cottage is indeed a fairly remote retreat as described and pictured on the website, situated adjacent to the South West Coastal Path, and a welcome escape for some, from the connectivity of wifi and mobile phones. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. from the Toad Hall Team.

We absolutely loved this cottage and its surroundings. A nice welcome from the owners. We never feel we will go back to somewhere we have been before as there are so many places in the world to visit but we both felt we would return to this cottage at some time in the future. Just perfect and that's despite 3 rainy days!
It was our 3rd visit to Battery Cottage. We have always enjoyed our stay there as it is our favourite holiday cottage and the owners always make us very welcome.
Superb location,very comfortable accomodation
The cottage is in an idyllic spot in the South Hams, and we couldn't fault the quality of the cottage in any way. Also, Val was the perfect owner, very attentive and approachable while not being intrusive.
This was the best equipped cottage that we have stayed in......so much attention to detail that we wanted for nothing. We were made to feel so welcome by the owners. Location superb with walking for miles from the door.
Wonderful cottage, very comfortable. Excellent location very peaceful and handy for the coastal path walks. We hope to return.
An excellent hokiday experience with great service from Toad Hall and very helpful and hospitable cottage hosts. Would absolutely recommend to others.
The property was exactly as described on the website. The owner was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The cottage is located in a lovely area and ideal for those who enjoy walking.
This was the first time that we'd used Toad Hall but it certainly won't be the last. The staff that we had contact with were tremendous and helped us to find a suitable property that fitted our budget, and they came up trumps with a stunning place that we didnt want to leave.
An absolute gem of a place in every way. Stunning location, beautifully appointed cottage and the owners are a lovely and very helpful couple. Cant recommend it enough and will be back.
A lovely romantic bolt-hole with fantastic walking and setting.
We really appreciated the attention to detail put into the cottage. We will miss having a beach 200 meters away and walking straight out into the coastal path.
Our 3rd visit and every bit as relaxing as the last 2. We never tire of the walk along the coastal path or the cycle ride on the Plymbridge trail. Thank you Val and Anton for their hospitality.
very good care and hospitality from the owners
Lovely cottage- cosy, comfortable, well-equipped and ideally situated for walking and those seeking a more secluded, peaceful location. Circular walk highly recommended, as is the wonderful Ship Inn. The owners were very friendly and conscientious, too. This was a real find and we would definitely return!
