A lovely village between the coast, New Milton, Sway and Lymington. You’ll find everything you need within the village. There’s a little parade of shops with convenience store, takeaway and hairdressers. Elsewhere in Hordle is a post office, pharmacy, petrol station and parish church. For simple traditional food try the village pub, The Three Bells, located close to the petrol station.  Villagers are an active crowd with a busy diary of events throughout the year, including scarecrow competition, arts and crafts exhibitions and village fayre.

In the village is Apple Court Garden, a private residence with beautiful, interesting gardens open to the public on selected days throughout the year. A lovey way to spend a day is at Hordle Lakes. A fishery for all levels and ages. The lakes are a collection of seven individual spring fed fishing lakes, open year around and heavily stocked with coarse fish and carp. A pleasant treat and good value for those on a budget. The staff were friendly and accommodating for those with food intolerances and happily moved the menu around to match suitability. There is a petrol station next door reasonably priced so that you can fill up ready for the next adventure.

Excellent - both in terms of location and quality of food

May 2022

June 2021

Sat outside and had a superb meal. Service and covid safety best in class. Staff genuinely helpful and friendly not scripted. Highly recommend.

April 2021

We visited the excellent Gordleton Mill on our recent holiday to the New Forest. All Covid-secure measures had been taken, the staff friendly and welcoming and the food delicious. We will definitely return when in the area.

November 2020

We recently enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Mill with friends. Despite arriving early we were made to feel very welcome choosing to be taken to our table on arrival of the whole group. The food was amazing and of ample portion size - the roast beef in particular melted in the mouth. There was a good choice of desserts - the cheesecake and also the crème brulee can be recommended. The live music added ambience to the experience without infringing on the conversation. The staff were polite, friendly and attentive. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Mill and would certainly return when holidaying in the area in the future.

Really nice place, gardens are good fun with the kids and something different that's free... meal was really nice, servers really friendly, although we did have to chase a couple of things, thoroughly enjoyable lunch

An attractive country pub, popular with locals and visitors who enjoy the friendly atmosphere and great food. The menu offers plenty of variation; dishes from the grill, pub classics and a daily specials board. The pub’s signature dish ‘Beer Can Chicken’ is well worth a try! Sunday carvery is hugely popular with locals, so booking is advised. There’s a small garden with play area that’ll keep children happy.

Food we got was lovely but hadn't much available on their menu unless you pre-ordered.

August 2021

Think this has changed hands recently and the new owners hadn't stocked up so small menu and had run out of several things hopefully will improve

July 2021

The Crown pub unfortunately had problems with their fridges so food wasn't served early in the week. We did however eat there at the end of our week. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly.

July 2021

Loved this pub, we went for a Sunday lunch and were very accommodating for us. Loved the food and went back again later in the week for a spontaneous lunch, again same level of superb service. Would highly recommend.

June 2018

Good food and friendly, shame about opening hours still being limited and shutting early in the evening.

We were disappointed that it is no longer open.

June 2023

as guests of Apple court house the gardens were available for us to browse- however, one day we found out someone had opened the gats and entered the gardens for themselves arguing that they had driven from Devon. Wrong time of year to get the advantage of the beauty but could visualise the attraction

March 2019

Good selection of healthy plants for sale.

Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

March 2024

A lovely place to stay. So much to see and do locally and within easy reach.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

Lovely village, plenty of shops and places to eat - no post office though.

June 2017

Barton on Sea
(3 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

June 2023

Super walk, nice and easy and great place for a meal or tea and cake by the car park.

April 2019

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(5 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

Highcliffe Castle beach is dog-friendly all year round.

Avon Beach
(6 miles)

(2)

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all.  For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months.  This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

April 2024

Stayed September 2023. Beech Farm Annexe has everything in it you could possibly need and more! We had a fantastic stay in this property with our 1 dog. The snug was so wonderful and cosy. The cream tea on arrival was very much welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner neither. Would recommend to anyone. Intend to stay again.

September 2023

We had a great holiday, thank you.

August 2023

Good location quiet , spoilt by low doorway !

November 2022

Welcomed with fresh flowers and a cream tea, thank you.

May 2022

The cottage exceeded expectations. It was clean, warm and cosy and well-equipped. The upstairs bed was very comfortable and both the bedroom and shower room were well-appointed. The snug was exactly that, snug, but was fine for the two of us. The TV was a faff but we got it going. Lots to do in the area, with plenty of lovely walks in varied landscapes. Do try the Red Lion in Boldre and the Beach House in Milford-on-sea. We also ate at the Gun Inn in Keyhaven; we found it grossly overpriced and wouldn't recommend it. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Beech Farm Annexe.

March 2022

So comfortable and cozy - just perfect. Bonus of off street/road parking

November 2021

The special touches of fresh flowers in every room and the welcome cream tea was a gorgeous treat. It all felt so homely.

August 2020

Beautiful area. Lovely and clean.

August 2020

Great base for us - maybe a bit cosy for 4 with older kids. Owners really helpful. Fabulous area - loads to do.

September 2019

Yes- we enjoyed exploring the local area. The kitchen was well equipped and the mattress in the downstairs bedroom was sooo comfortable! Our daughter slept well- didn't want to get out of bed some mornings!

July 2019

Really enjoyed our stay. Well presented cottage and felt like someone had actually lived there as everything was where you needed it.

April 2019

We had a great holiday. So many places to visit not too far away. Plenty of walks to discover. Our Dog had a great time too. Lots of pretty villages to visit and eating places. Must say dog friendly too. Which is a bonus. We will certainly be back. The holiday cottage was so comfortable and. The garden was small but just right to let the dog out in the morning and evening. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

June 2018

We had a great time. The annex was just great and beautifully appointed. The sitting room is a little small but otherwise a lovely place to stay.

November 2017

We really enjoyed our stay at Beech farm annex. So warm and cosy. We so enjoyed the additional touches of Welcome card, flowers, New Forest cider and cream tea on arrival. Will definitely advertise to friends and family and would come back in the future.

October 2017

Enjoyed the stay very much

July 2017

It was superb. Lots of added extras - cream tea on arrival!! It was spotless and in the most perfect location for exploring the wonderful Countryside. Would recommend highly to anyone

May 2017

All very nice

April 2017

Property had many high quality fixtures & fittings. Did not like stones used on drive and access path, was lime walking & driving on a pebble beach.

December 2016

We had a fantastic week here. The cottage is warm, welcoming and comfortable. It has everything you need in terms of equipment . The decor is well thought out - gorgeous colours. There is even an eclectic collection of books, games and DVDs. It was a lovely place to come home to after days out with our border collie Fin ...and if you had somehow forgotten your dog's food bowl and water bowl, it wouldn't have mattered, as there were both in the kitchen. An ideal base from which to discover the New Forest. Oh...and the cream tea, waiting on the table in the kitchen when we arrived, was delicious.

October 2016

our cottage was beautiful, clean and very comfortable with everything we needed, we had a great week

August 2016

We booked Beech Farm Annex in August 2016 having never been to the New Forest. We arrived at the cottage to find a beautiful cream tea and local cider. The cottage was perfect, very clean and extremely well equipt. The location was good, close to Lymington and easy to get right into the Forest. We had a great week.
