This delightful thatched cottage is centuries old and was built by local fishermen using timbers from a Spanish wreck that foundered in the bay. It has low ceilings, exposed beams and thick walls with windows that peep out onto the square in Inner Hope and has a lovely welcoming feel. It is only a few minutes stroll to the beaches and for those who like walking, the South West Coastal Path passes through the village and gives easy access to the stunning coastline. Brook Cottage is full of character and charm and a makes for a superb summer or winter getaway, being a comfortable base in the summer for a fun seaside holiday or a snug retreat in winter for those who like exploring during the quieter times of year and enjoy coming home to a warm cottage in which to relax and snuggle up around the fire.
“Its a wonderful little cottage and a perfect escape from it all winter holiday. Thank you.”

Kitchen and bathroom floor was sticky and as there was no mop and bucket in the cottage, we had to clean it with some floor wipes that we found in kitchen drawer. Also the tiny cheese grater was filthy with old food stuck in it, so put it back in the drawer and didn't use it. The underneath toilet lid was disgusting with old (brown) urine stains all over it. Obviously hadn't been checked, let alone cleaned. Again, cleaned it up. The bathroom grout and seal was black with mildew. Cleaned the seal ourselves with bleach and the mildew was removed, but the whole of the bathroom tiles and screen could do with a good bleach clean. There was no frying pan and not one single toilet roll to be getting on with. Reported this to Toad Hall, and a mop, frying pan and toilet roll came the next day. Caretaker didn't seem very happy that we had reported the above and said she had spent most of the time cleaning the oven which apparently had been left in a bad way. But that wasn't our problem and it was disappointing because we have always found the cleaning to be acceptable on previous stays.
Despite the list of problems the Cottage was well equipped and in a good location. It would benefit from an outside Front Door light as there is no street lighting nearby at night. Parking for a car is painful as there is no designated parking space for the cottage.
Enjoyed our stay immensely. We will be back!
The holiday was great, but would have been better if we had access to the shed to the chairs to sit in garden.
Great time and the sun shone all week
Small cottage ideal for a couple and in a great location. Would you please convey my thanks to the very helpful lady who answered my telephone call on the afternoon of Saturday the 7th Oct. and sorted out the accommodation in a very short space of time.
Absolutely loved it, but we spent more time at Ashleigh with our children and grandchildren, so only went to brook cottage for overnight stay, However it was a delightful cottage, I can't really see how it could be improved. It's location was absolutely awesome! Chocolate box picturesque! Galley kitchen was more than adequate for our needs but we only ate one breakfast there and found the space around the dining table to be very tight.
We had a wonderful and relaxing stay, the location was perfect and the weather was beautiful. We used the "garden" on 3 occasions to have a BBQ - it was a real sun trap. The walk up the hill and round Bolt Tail and then back into Inner Hope is stunning
We really enjoyed the cottage and location. Have stayed in Hope Cove several times now and will go back next year, and will try to book Brook cottage again.
TV and remote were glitchy, but otherwise a great place to stay
Very disappointing for Toad Hall Cottages, the Furnishings were very tired and some of the essentials were not working so have not been checked .the windows were very dirty, door mats were very tired .No outside lighting to come back in the dark to open door. All in all the condition of the cottage was very tired
Many thanks for your valuable feedback. We will pass on your comments to the property owner and caretaker to look into the points you have raised.

Beautiful little cottage. Great place for a quiet getaway with family and friends. Beach was two minutes away. Fantastic. Fell in love with the area. Parking was ok as it was a quiet time of year ( March 2017). However Can imagine that would change during the height of the season. Would definitely visit again. Boo was great when we locked ourselves out. Came in no time at all to help us out. Thank you.
We (and our little border terrier) loved this cute little 500 year old thatched cottage...it's got so much character and history! Plus it was clean and comfortable and everything you could need in it. Had a great power shower! We have booked to come here again next year, so that must be good enough recommendation. We love love Hope Cove and surrounding areas. Looking forward to our next visit!
This was our first holiday at Hope Cove and we absolutely loved the village, it is like a really old fashioned seaside place, stunning views, lovely little beaches and coves and so relaxing. The people were really friendly and the beach, pub, restaurant and shop all within 5 minutes walk from the cottage. We visited Salcombe, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Modbury and Ashburton. We also walked to Thurlstone and bolberry heath, where we enjoyed spectacular views of the sea and coast. Brook cottage was very welcoming, clean, well equipped and cosy, Thank you for a lovely holiday, we plan to visit Hope Cove again soon !
What a peaceful, relaxing stay. The area was lovely. Lots to do and see within easy reach. Cottage clean, tidy and well equipped. Fabulous shower and very cosy and warm. Would recommend to friends as very good price .
Lovely little cottage a very short distance from a beautiful sandy cove and walks along the south west coastal path. Loved brook cottage and beautiful hope cove
