Walked here from our cottage in East End. Warm welcome & delicious food - would definitely return & recommend.

May 2023

Really enjoyed our trips to the Turfcutters Arms when staying just down the road. Friendly landlord (and locals) welcoming to us and dog, fantastic sized garden with lots to do, play area and snooker table for kids, loads of space, pretty flower hedging; just a really nice place to while away a sunny afternoon. Didn't eat there but was busy at lunchtime so assuming pretty decent!

May 2022

We thoroughly enjoyed eating out at the Turfcutters; staff were friendly and the meal was good value for money

May 2022

Really great pub with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. We ate here twice during our holiday and the food was excellent. It's advisable to call up to reserve a table as they do get booked up.

April 2022

A very busy and popular pub with pleasant staff and varied menu (just a 5 minute walk from our accommodation). We had a problem with our meals on our first visit which was dealt with promptly and without fuss. The second visit was 100% fine. We can recommend the 5 mile Turfcutters Arms circular walk.

Visited during a recent beef festival weekend. Good family atmosphere and the food was good without a huge wait considering the garden was so busy. Plenty of different beers and ales to try along with the popular festival fizz. We will visit again.

August 2019

Was disappointed with the food and the lack of customer service behind the bar! Will not be going back!

May 2019

We ate here on our first night in the New Forest. We booked in advance but it was not too busy. The menu is typical pub food but of a good standard. The vegetarian 'Homity' pie was appreciated by one of our party. Staff were friendly. The pub is an easy walk from the cottage.

Fabulous breakfasts

April 2022

We visited the takeaway part of the establishment which was nice and friendly and the outside eating area was good but it was very expensive. I think we paid £7ish for an egg mayo baguette and £2.50 for a gingerbread fox biscuit!

August 2021

We visited three times during our holiday for lunch and afternoon tea. Managed to sit outside each time, no reservation needed. Staff were lovely and food was fantastic. Good price, especially for the area and quality.

June 2021

Lovely but need to book ahead.

Unfortunately they had run out of scones but otherwise it is a good place for tea and cakes etc.

This is a great place to find gorgeous food and a friendly welcome. We stopped for coffee and pastries but the smell of a cooked breakfast as we walked through the door changed our minds. We'll definitely go next time we're in the area. The coffee was good too.

Nice cup of tea - could do with some fans or air-conditioning as rather warm

A wonderful place to eat and socialise - lovely garden where we enjoyed afternoon tea. However the length of time it took to serve us was unacceptable.

The Captains table was a great place to visit for either breakfast or lunch or just an early morning coffee. Also only five minutes walk from Clobb Copse Cottage.

July 2022

Had a lovely cream tea here, you get a choice of hot drinks to go with it, not stuck to just tea, you get 2 scones ( unlike other tea rooms who only give one scone) and if you ask they will warm the scones, not self service as stated by another reviewer, I would recommend this location as very good well worth a visit.

February 2018

Had a cream tea here which did not come up to the standard of a Sussex Cream Tea. The scones were not warmed up before serving and it was self service, so this was a let down.

Really interesting; very welcoming- a lovely place to visit

May 2022

Very much worth visiting

October 2021

This was great! We spent the entire day there from when it opened at 10am until it closed at 6pm. There was so much to see and learn, the children loved the monorail and vintage bus rides and the play area was one of the best we have been to (and we have been to a lot!). The best bit however were the two talks given by the Palace House falconer about his birds and what they do. It was so informative and amazing - the bloke needs a payrise!

August 2021

Interesting visit but expensive. The children’s play area was excellent.

November 2020

Excellent value.lots to do here, could easily spend the whole day if visiting all the attractions at this venue.

Enjoyed a day out at Beaulieu, reasonably quite as out of school holidays and we were able to take advantage of the monorail, the bus and easy access to the exhibitions. Also took a walk around the Mill Pond walk which gave a fabulous view of the Pond at Beaulieu and over to the bridge. We also took advantage of the free return to revisit the main exhibition on a very wet day enabling the motor fan more time to read all the information .

October 2023

Fabulous day out. It’s not cheap to visit but we really enjoyed. May not be suitable for young families. Only downside was that we went for lunch at the cafe and they had stopped serving hot food at 2.30pm and all the sandwiches /wraps had gone. Only cakes left !

September 2023

Having been to the excellent Motor Museum several times before, we decided to upgrade our annual pass and visit the sculpture exhibition which is on until September. We can thoroughly recommend this extra attraction, we are not usually into culture but the variety of topics and designs was fascinating and very enjoyable, recommended. The cafe is also very good.

June 2023

An enjoyable way to spend a day (or more!) lots to see, as well as the motors the gardens are beautiful, we found the wartime spy exhibition really interesting and surprising! Arrows to steer round the main exhibition much appreciated- it's a bit of a maze! Top marks to the staff - everyone was friendly, helpful, informative and welcoming, made the visit extra special.

June 2022

Outstanding, very interesting, and staff were friendly and made visitors welcome

May 2022

A very nice day out. Everyone enjoyed it even those who are not so interested in cars.

April 2022

Rey interesting but we thought the museum was past its best and needs some investment

October 2021

A great place to visit for all ages, with the older ones enjoying nostalgic memories of past motoring! It is a good venue if the weather is bad and well worth the entrance fee.

September 2021

Lots to see and do if visiting all the attractions here.A very good day out.

October 2020

Fantastic day out for any car enthusiasts

April 2019

Such a great day out! Museum is facinating and interactive. Combined with the beautiful Palace House this is a must do attraction.

September 2018

A good day out - even if you do not like cars! Our grandson particularly enjoyed the museum and the 'Top Gear' attraction. The remains of the Abbey are worth seeing and one can dress up as a monk! Our favourite attraction was the demonstration of falconry - absolutely fascinating and we learnt a great deal about the birds and the history of falconry.

August 2018

Incredible place, well worth a visit (especially if you have a car-mad kid or two!). Really good day out- we did ours the same day as one of their Special days (Alfa day) which was good.

December 2017

A great day out for all the family. We spent all day here and would visit again.

Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

March 2024

A lovely place to stay. So much to see and do locally and within easy reach.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

Lovely village, plenty of shops and places to eat - no post office though.

June 2017

Barton on Sea
(10 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(11 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

September 2023

A fantastic cottage in a great location for exploring the New Forest.

July 2023

Really enjoyed our stay at Cherry Trees. It is in a lovely location on a little lane on the edge of the open forest. It is so quiet and peaceful. There is a small post office very near for milk, newspapers etc. The property is very well furnished and equipped and very comfortable. Also a nice outside space for enjoying the nice weather. Cherry Trees is a good location for exploring the new forest with many walking routes. We enjoyed days out including to Keyhaven, New Milton, Milford on Sea, Barton on Sea and also a nice morning at adventure golf near Lymington.

July 2023

What a lovely property! Having stayed in the next door property a few months ago, I knew the location is perfect. It was just about finding the right property and this is it. I am sure I'll return in the autumn when its not too hot to go walking. I thoroughly enjoyed the garden in the beautiful weather and it's so peaceful here. A little hot under a 13.5 tog duvet though. I wish you every success with the holiday rentals, I am sure the house will be popular.

July 2023

May 19th 2023 We were very pleased to be the first people to stay here. Everything is brand new! Who would have thought we would have had a week of sunshine. We've been to the New Forest many times but never in May when the gorse is out and the foals newly born. If you are reading this and new to this part of the world, I would recommend visits to Lepe, Bucklers Hard (walk to Beaulieu along the river), Exbury Gardens and the little beach at Tanners Lane. The Farm Shop on the way to Beaulieu is worth a stop for food supplies.

June 2023

Fantastic stay, and weather. Thank you for arranging an earlier arrival time.

June 2023

As above

May 2023

Cherry Trees in East Boldre had been totally refurbished and furnished to a great standard and everything was brand new. There's a lovely little garden with a table and chairs and a bench where you can enjoy the sunshine. Just across the road is the open forest: ponies, donkeys and cows are literally on your doorstep. East Boldre is a mile from Beaulieu and a short drive from both Brockenhurst and Lymington. Tanners Beach is a 10-minute drive along country lanes. If you are looking for a week in a comfortable, well-equipped two-bed bungalow that's in the heart of the New Forest, Cherry Trees should be on your list. I should also say that the owner was very quick to respond when I forgetfully left some stuff behind and very kindly forwarded it to me.
