Nestled away in this beautiful corner of the New Forest, in the quiet village of Frogham is Crossroads Cottage. This cosy, country cottage is presented beautifully with in keeping furniture and lovely inglenook fireplace. The cottage has ample living space for up to five guests with large kitchen/diner, separate lounge and sunny conservatory.

The open tread staircase from the lounge leads up to three characterful bedrooms. A pretty single bedroom, second single room with a pull-out bed underneath (please note space is restricted when the second bed is used) and finally a lovely master bedroom with double bed and en suite shower room. There is also a family bathroom located on the first floor for guests convenience.

The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and Aga heated during the colder months of the year. Along with under floor heating in the conservatory, wood burning stove in the lounge, together with oil central heating, this is certainly a cottage that lends itself as cosy all year round.

One of the main features of staying at Crossroads Cottage is the luxury of your very own swim spa! With under floor heating throughout and heated to 32 degrees the swim spa can be used all year. The swim spa is professionally maintained and consists of counter flow jets that are adjustable to suit your swimming style. There is a hydrotherapy seating area with fully adjustable massage function, for up to six people. A real treat for guests who love a swim every day.

The sunny garden is mainly laid to lawn including a large patio area with wooden garden furniture and two sun loungers provided, perfect for laying in the sun in the warmer weather.  Please note guests should always supervise their children whilst in the garden and in the swim spa.

And if that wasn’t enough, straight from the front gate and along the road for a two minute stroll you will find miles of open forest just waiting to explore. Close by, on the crossroads, is the popular Foresters Arms for a hearty pub lunch or delicious evening meal. Ponies, donkeys and other forest livestock can often be seen wandering past the gate in this enchanting section of the forest.

Just a short drive away is the delightful town of Fordingbridge and Ringwood with many convenience stores and eateries, a little further afield is the beautiful city of Salisbury and the coast is only around 30 minutes away.

Crossroads Cottage is ideal for a wonderful stay in the heart of the New Forest and we have no hesitation in recommending this cottage for a family holiday, couples or a small group of friends.

Entrance into large kitchen/diner. The dining area has a large ash table seating six guests. The well equipped kitchen includes electric hob and oven, fridge-freezer, slimline dishwasher, microwave Nespresso machine and washing machine. Door to conservatory.
The conservatory has doors on to the garden and includes comfortable seating and has a CD player.
The cosy lounge includes comfortable seating, beautiful inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove and a Smart TV. Another door from the lounge leads out into the conservatory also. Open tread stairs from the lounge lead to the first floor.
Bedroom 1 double bed (4ft 6in) with en suite shower room.
Bedroom 2 single bed(3ft).
Bedroom 3 small single bed (2ft 6in) with pull out bed underneath (please note space will be restricted when the second bed is used).

A large patio stretches across the back of the cottage. The owners have provided a wooden set of garden furniture seating six with two separate wooden sun loungers and two folding fabric sun loungers. There is also a gas barbecue for guests to use. The rest of the garden is laid to lawn with some gravel areas.

Across the garden is the pool house that includes a luxury swim spa heated to 32 degrees year round. The pool house has under floor heating and some seating for guests convenience.

Known as ‘The Northern Gateway to the New Forest’, Fordingbridge is a picturesque town on the banks of the River Avon. The town is known for its majestic medieval bridge which features seven elegant arches dating from 1286AD and was once noted for its smuggling. The infamous Captain Diamond, the "Smuggler King", spent much of his time in a local hostelry. Today, Fordingbridge is home to an eclectic mix of interesting, independent shops and boutiques. In Kings Yard, you’ll find The Towns Visitor Information Centre and Fordingbridge Museum which houses an impressive collection of exhibitions and local history.

There are plenty of really good pubs and restaurants in and around Fordingbridge. In the town centre try The George and The Bat and Ball. Close by in Whitsbury is The Cartwheel Inn, and in Rockbourne, The Rose and Thistle.

The Avon Valley footpath runs for 34 miles from Salisbury to Christchurch. The surrounding scenery is the essence of stunningly beautiful English countryside, winding through high chalk downlands and water meadows. The River Avon is a celebrated and well known fishing destination with scenic backdrops and inspiring views. You can buy day permits to fish from Riverside Park Recreation Park from the Visitor information Centre, or Q8 service station. Keen fishermen may also like to try Rockbourne Trout Fishery, a short drive north of the town centre. There are six stunning lakes for fly fishing and a tributary to the River Avon, all set in over 55 secluded acres of woodland.

The New Forest is great for star gazing its inky black skies. Enthusiasts may like to contact Fordingbridge Astronomers online. They’re amateur astronomers of all ages and abilities who are keen share their interest of astronomy and regularly meet up.

Just south of Fordingbridge in Midgham are outdoor activity specialists Insight Activities. They offer archery, crossbows, combat archery and axe throwing! During the summer months you can visit the excavation of a Roman Villa in Rockbourne, and to the north is Breamore Estate, an Elizabethan manor house, countryside museum and a fine example of an Anglo-Saxon church - open April - October.

The Foresters Arms
(Less than a mile)

The Foresters, known locally as the 'Donkey pub' for the donkeys that often cluster outside, is a welcoming place to stop for a pint and maybe something nice to eat, especially if you are refuelling during a Forest walk. Dogs are welcome and there’s a lovely garden to enjoy in summer, and a cosy woodburner for the cooler months.

Lovely pub in a great location with good food and friendly staff

July 2023

Didn't realise we had to book as it can get so busy but once we could get a table it was incredibly welcoming and the meal was fantastic! Would definitely recommend (and recommend booking!).

November 2021

Visited this one evening 4 adults . We were sat in a room with a French door which was wide open.we asked to be moved told there was no where else free. They said they had to leave door open due to restrictions. It was cold and made food cold, surleythey could have opened a window instead they were taking the restrictions to the extreme. Spoilt our meal . Will not be going again.

The Foresters Arms - Frogham
(Less than a mile)

In a beautiful location in the village of Frogham, and a favourite haunt for New Forest donkeys and ponies to gather! This traditional pub is super friendly, with plenty of seating inside, and outside in the large beer garden. Menus consist of popular pub classics served in big portions. Come for delicious, honest, home cooked food. Dogs welcome.

The Three Lions
(Less than a mile)

Very much a gastro pub with a good size bar. The Three Lions is a real treat and very popular, so it’s advisable to book. The owners, one of whom is a former Michelin starred chef, have created a foodie haven, accompanied by an excellent selection of drinks and friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Very friendly staff, warm and cosy bar area where we were allowed to bring the dog. Lovely homemade food - I especially enjoyed the lasagne. We ate here three times during our week's stay in Redlynch and the service and food were consistently great. We wish this could be our local! Highly recommend.

The Royal Oak - North Gorley
(Less than a mile)

(5)

This former 17th century hunting lodge is in the pretty little village of North Gorley, opposite the village duck pond. You’ll often see New Forest ponies, cattle, donkeys and maybe the off pig or two grazing outside the pub, making a stop here for a drink or something to eat, a special treat. Varied weekly menus feature lots of local produce from the award-winning chef, all complemented by a good selection of drinks and cask ales. Dogs welcome.

We’re quite disappointed. We felt it was overpriced for the standard of food as we had several meals in the area that were better and less expensive. While we were advised that their beef was served rare which we like, it was rarer than rare and quite tough. Also the whole meal was cold. Should have complained but they were very busy. The staff were lovely

amazing place.

September 2021

We visited this pub twice whilst on Holiday during June 2021. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pub had a nice selection of drinks and food. We will definately return next time we are in the area.

June 2021

Visited twice for a meal during our week's stay. The place was extremely clean and welcoming (both to us and our dog), and the food was freshly made and excellent. Wholly recommend it.

September 2018

This is a lovely friendly pub with beautiful food and very friendly and helpful staff. We loved it on two visits. Also it had free wi fi which was very helpful.

The Fighting Cocks
(2 miles)

(18)

In a beautiful setting close to the village of Godshill is this very popular pub, often surrounded by New Forest ponies, cattle and the odd donkey or two. The décor inside is warm and inviting with lots of quirky country inspired antiquities. There’s seating outside for when it gets warm, and a play area for children. Food here is really good, with many of the dishes featuring local produce. As the menu points out, when it says ‘home-made’ that means on the premises – and it’s delicious.

Absolutely first rate food on two occasions that we visited, and service was good considering that it was very popular and busy with families.

April 2024

Lovely pub if only going for a drink, have eaten there in several occasions on holiday but this year food wasn’t as good with new management/owners

October 2023

We booked the first night of our holiday to eat here as it was within walking distance. The food was inedible even though we had steered clear of anything out of the ordinary (pie and two burgers). The meat just tasted bad, defrosted perhaps and left out during the hot weather too long? We were put on the table beside the fireplace where the menu is located - please avoid sitting here at all costs. People were standing over us while we were trying to eat the food, talking and leaning on our table, bumping into our chairs. At one point there were 7 people just standing there on top of us discussing what they were going to eat. No regard for the fact we were eating.

February 2023

Went for Sunday lunch, which was a traditional Sunday Pub meal. Tasty and hot. Made more pleasant by the friendly and helpful service.

May 2022

Best pub & food around. We travel to the New Forest from Leicestershire about 4-5 times a year and always go here for at least 2 meals during our stay. Excellent food and choice is amazing

November 2021

Excellent meals. Kids playground is just brilliant, keeps them occupied while you relax!

August 2021

Had dinner there twice, first time was on a Monday & food & service were excellent. However two days later, it couldn’t have been more disappointing, the quality of food & service was very poor.

July 2021

Not great found the girl on the gate with checking in quite unapproachable . Two steaks they were edible but presentation really poor and extras not at all tasty with steak chips tasted like oven chips not freshly prepared . Overall outside needs a darn good tidy up . Shame as very nearby for Forest side

June 2021

Food was OK, service slow and terse

May 2021

we were very disappointed in the standard of the food having read good reviews. We ordered 2 sausages and mash and a mushroom stroganoff. The sausages were burnt with one on each plate completely inedible. The stroganoff was okay but not as tasty as I expected. In fairness to the pub we didn't complain at the time but seeing how the sausages looked we were surprised that they were served. we just didn't go back.

August 2020

Extremely friendly staff. Had two meals here, one better than the other... there are better pub dining proepects within the forest.

July 2020

Good beer, nice welcome and the food was good, honest, plentiful pub grub

October 2019

Fantastic food and service. The small portions menu very helpful for elderly parents and those wanting to watch their weight!

September 2019

first class service and food

April 2019

The food was varied and all home made which was surprising. The online menu looks very limited but there were lots of specials to choose from which were not shown online. A meal with drinks for six including drinks was £60-70 which was excellent value. Donkeys seem to congregate at the pub so great for taking photos and the kids loved it!

July 2018

Lovely friendly pub with great food and dog friendly.

June 2018

We only came here for a drink but thought it was a very friendly local pub with some nice local beers and ciders. The landlord is also a butcher and we were told that all the meat on the menu is prepared on the premises. Some good traditional menu choices which we happily would have tried had we been here at dinner or lunch time.

February 2018

The service was slow and the food is really very bad :-(

Expensive but worth it. Visited by 13 year old and Father. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You need to be able to climb out of the water yourself and on to the equipment. You MUST be able to get your face wet without being scared! Please also note that there is no point in going to watch a family member take part in this activity - you cannot see from the viewing area.

August 2020

We only did the inflatable part of the park but it was great fun, plenty of time to get around the whole thing and do all the best bits over again until exhaustion takes hold! I strongly suggest getting there at least 20 minutes before your booked time though as we were essentially told off for arriving late even though we were there for the time we booked for.

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(13 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all.  For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months.  This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

August 2021

Barton on Sea
(14 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

Mudeford Sandbank
(14 miles)

(3)

This is one of the most scenic of New Forest beaches. Lined with some of the most picturesque and expensive beach huts in the country! There’s no parking next to the beach, as it’s a traffic-free zone, but there’s pay and display parking at Hengistbury Head from where you can catch a little train to the sandbank, and Mudeford Quay which runs a small ferry (5 mins) over to the sandbank. Can also be reached on foot and by bicycle.

This is a holiday must. A short ferry out to amazing beach makes for a great day out.

September 2022

As usual, stunning. 4 ferries but sadly the Land train not running although according to their web site they were. Always visit when in the area

September 2020

Beautiful place, our favourite beach in south of England. It feels like an island, when you go over on the ferry and at times (off-season!) on sunny days it can feel like a little piece of Heaven, it's so peaceful and beautiful- bit of a sense of New England. There's a super little 'restaurant', the Beach Hut, which does great breakfasts, meals all day and some evenings. Also takeaway eg pizzas, you can eat on the beach. Very simple surroundings, with a sheltered veranda that can be uncovered in fine weather, and amazing views. Quite pricey and often very busy (and you are best to ring and check opening times and book since often weather and ferry-dependant) but the quality of the food and those stunning views make it more than worthwhile!

November 2021

We loved the location & it felt like a home from home. Enjoyed seeing the animals walk past the house every day & walking a few steps to the New Forest. Have already recommended to friends. Welcome pack & anniversary decorations so thoughtful & place so clean & cosy. Have re- booked for next year. Thank you.

November 2021

Halloween decorations were a nice touch. Was a minor issue with the heating but the caretaker and owners were fantastic in getting this resolved quickly, including the owners calling us from France to apologise and advise on what was being done!

September 2021

Lovely Cottage. The pool/spa was fabulous. Great area for walking, running or bike riding. Not so good for not very active people.

June 2021

The location and the swim spa made this a great 1 week choice for us.

May 2021

We did. I am not the biggest fan of "character" cottages with lots of old items dotted around, but it was clean and well presented, with nothing falling off and the doors closed properly as far as I could see, which is often not the case (minor point - one of the doors in the landing cupboard appears to be warped and doesn't close properly)

August 2020

Yes. So pleased we could use the swimming pool. And lovely with the local ponies and donkeys walking past the house each day.

February 2020

This was the perfect cottage for our family of 4! The indoor spa/pool was very well used and the cottage was cosy and equipped with everything you could possibly need! We will definitely be back.

July 2019

It was our second time staying at Cross Roads Cottage and we have booked again! We love the location, the swim spa is a unique addition and the cottage is very much home from home. To have baby donkeys running about was a delight!

We were made to feel very welcome by Jane, and the welcome hamper and the Easter eggs and bunny. Full marks all round.

April 2019

We had a fantastic stay. Cottage lovely could be improved with a more comfy mattress/ bed in single room.

July 2018

Wonderful stay. Peaceful location. Pretty, private garden. Well-equipped, cosy, comfortable, homely cottage. Forgot to mention in the guest book that there is only one fish in the pond. Seems a bit lonely! Perfect otherwise.

July 2018

You have designed/decorated/furnished this wonderful cottage so perfectly. It has a peaceful, calming air about it and our stay here has been very therapeutic. The lovely garden has been a joy to relax in also. Jane popped by to say hello on our first day which was nice. A perfect location for cycling in the forest (bike hire, including electric which are great) at Burley, walking along the coast (not far by car) and making friends with donkeys.

July 2018

The property is fantastic and provides anything you could possibly need with lots of added extras. A true home from home - the owner took great care to make sure we had all the information we needed, could access the property OK and ensure we had a comfortable stay. Fully equipped - you couldn't ask for more. The location is stunning and very relaxing. A lovely country pub opposite for food and drinks. The Swim Spa is amazing and certainly a unique touch. If you're looking for a relaxing break you will find it here. We absolutely loved it and will be coming back soon. Thank you Angela for your great hospitality and stunning home.
