Description

Heathfield is a handsome detached Edwardian villa, one of the first to be built on Thurlestone’s Yarmer estate and is a much loved family home that has been in the same family for several generations. The villa provides graceful living in the supremely spacious rooms of a bygone era and most of which overlook the extensive gardens of nearly an acre and have stunning views towards the headland of Bolt Tail and the curve of Bigbury Bay. A few minutes’ walk from this fine house is the sandy horseshoe beach of Thurlestone Sands, the well known Thurlestone Golf Course (handicap required) and the local tennis courts. A must for family groups, this is a bright, most attractive home, recently fully double glazed,  with masses of space both inside and out and set in an ideal spot for a wonderful holiday with every amenity close at hand.

Front door into outer porch and hallway. Spacious, most attractive sitting room with large bay windows that overlook the gardens. There is an open fireplace, comfortable sofas, chairs, TV with DVD and doors open to the verandah and gardens. Further large family room with feature bay windows, this room has chairs, table tennis table, plenty of games, toys and books making a wonderful room for the children to escape to. Downstairs cloakroom with basin and a separate WC. Door from here to the rear hallway and rear garden door. Off the hallway is a large dining room with dining table to seat 8. The kitchen is well equipped and fitted with plenty of units, electric cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. Adjacent utility rooms with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. Downstairs shower room with shower, basin and WC. From the hallway a fine staircase rises to the landing. Bedroom 1: A double bedroom with 5ft bed, wonderful views. Adjacent bathroom with bath, shower over and basin. Bedroom 2: A very spacious double room with wonderful views and a 5ft bed, TV and fitted cupboard.  Bedrooms 1 and 2 have doors that lead out to a balcony - a perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of tea. Bedroom 3: Twin bedroom with 3ft beds and a pretty fireplace (not for use). Bedroom 4: An attractive children’s room with a single 3ft bed with pull-out guest/child bed, cot, a Victorian fireplace (not for use) and walk-in airing cupboard. Adjacent separate WC. Steps down lead to the second bathroom with bath and basin. Bedroom 5: Small twin bedroom with 3ft beds, also with an attractive fireplace (not for use) and fitted cupboard.

The driveway leads into an extensive parking area to the side and rear of the house. The large ¾ acre gardens are provided with garden furniture and extend around the house, with wide green lawns edged with shrubs and hedges. Hidden amongst the trees at the bottom of the garden is a further area of lawn, great for hide and seek. A gate at the bottom of the garden leads to steps down to the road, just a short walk to the golf course and beach.Please Note: The gardens are not dog proof.

Really enjoyed our stay. This is a very large house ideally suited to large families. We had 4 teenagers who all got their own room. A massive garden with resident owls and great views from the 1st floor. A short walk to the village shop (great fresh bread each morning and stocked for all those things you forget like table tennis balls), the dog friendly Village Inn and the dog friendly beaches. Very nice to get a call from the owner on our first morning checking we had everything we needed. Well equipped house including a good quality BBQ. Plenty of parking and places to keep paddle boards, dinghies etc. All finished off with a nice treat bag for the dog from Toad Hall Cottages.

We had a wonderful time at Heathfield and would consider returning another year. The house is spacious for family get together and the garden is great.

Our fourth family visit to Heathfield and it feels like going to a very lovely home from home. children love it, the beaches, tennis courts and golf course are on the doorstep.

As a venue for a 50th wedding anniversary holiday with family it was brilliant. The house had character and became 'home' to us immediately. A traditional West Country seaside holiday for all ages - very nostalgic! Thank you.

Excellent house which fulfilled our needs. We were two families sharing the property and there was plenty of space for us to have a great holiday. Well equipped and in a superb location we hope to be back again.

I thought Heathfield was a beautiful house with stunning gardens. I particularly loved the fact that it was clearly a home, with lots of personal artefacts left. We will definitely return.

This was our second stay at Heathfield with a 3-generation family party ranging in age from 5 to 75. The house suits us perfectly - it feels like a loved family home, not so immaculate that we feel anxious about living in it, very well equipped, particularly in the kitchen and the playroom. We enjoyed the addition this year of WiFi and croquet and were gratified that our comments last year - about providing towels and a lock on the upstairs loo - were complied with! Please pass on our gratitude to Mr and Mrs Darby for sharing their house with other families.

We had a wonderful week at Heathfield. It is a great property for a large family group and deals well with all ages. It also has a fabulous location near to the beaches, the golf course and the Village Post Office and Pub.
