Higher Cotterbury Cottage in South Devon is tucked deep in beautiful rural landscape in the heart of the South Hams, a most attractive stone cottage, attached to one side of the original farmhouse and enjoying a wide lawned garden fringed with trees. The cottage oozes character, retaining plenty of original features that combine with a high quality modern kitchen and bathroom to provide most comfortable accommodation. The conveniently located cottage is also extremely environmentally friendly with brand new solar photovoltaic panels, so throughtout daylight hours the cottage draws its own green electricity which is further complemented by a heat store warmed by a wood burning stove, solar thermal and a heat pump thus creating a very low carbon stay. This peaceful spot forms an ideal hub to explore this lovely area, with both Blackpool and Slapton Sands a few miles in one direction, the River Dart and Dartmouth that offers a wide range of water sport and recreation opportunities, busy marinas, picturesque buildings and excellent restaurants, in the other. Dartmouth Golf Club is within a 5 minutes drive along with Woodlands Leisure Park, a great day out for the children.

Guests of Higher Cotterbury Cottage can enjoy free unrestricted access at the newly refurbished Dartmouth Spa at The Dartmouth Golf & Country Club.
Facilities include: Indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, mud rasul and fully equipped techno gymnasium.  Plus 25% OFF Green Fees on both the 18-hole Championship Course and 9-hole Dartmouth Course (not to be used in conjunction with any other offer).

Front door opens directly into the attractive beamed living room that features a natural stone floor, a two seater sofa, two armchairs, a rug, digital TV with DVD player and standard Sky package, free standing wood burner and circular dining table to seat 4. There is a selection of board games, books, jigsaw puzzles and DVDs. The smart, well equipped kitchen area has granite work surfaces, fridge with ice box, electric cooker with ceramic hob, double oven and grill, extractor fan, microwave and dishwasher. Cloaks cupboard. Fine oak stairs rise to the landing.Double bedroom with 5ft bed, attractive aspect from the window over the garden, and a side door opens to slate steps that lead down to the grassy courtyard at the rear. Twin bedroom with 3ft beds and pretty garden views. Modern bathroom with bath, shower over, basin, WC and ladder radiator.

A path leads from the car park through the garden to the cottage. There are ponds in the garden with deep water, so children will need to be supervised around these arease. Wide lawns are fringed with trees and divided from the neighbouring farmhouse by appropriate planting. A terrace area beside the front door is shielded by a trellis and provided with table and chairs. At the rear of the cottage is a wash house provided with washing machine.

  • Included: Bed linen, towels, WiFi, 1 basket of logs, electricity and central heating (air source heat pump - an effecient green credential, under-floor downstairs and radiators upstairs) and electricity. Travel cot and high chair available by prior arrangement.
  • Pets: One small/medium size dog only. Dog must be kept on a lead or otherwise under control in the garden. Pet charge £25.00 per week.
  • Telephone: No telephone. Good coverage for most mobile networks.
  • Local Facilities: Beaches 4.5 miles. Pub in Blackawton 1.5 miles. P/O village store and restaurant in Strete under 3 miles. Two body boards available at the cottage for guests’ use. Woodlands Leisure Park 1 mile. Dartmouth Golf and Country Club 1.5 miles. Dartmouth 4.5 miles.

Fantastic cottage - lovely and peaceful but not far from beaches towns etc. Lovely gardens and we all loved the cottage. We are looking forward to booking it again.

Just needed the hot water at the cottage to be hotter for a bath after long coastal path walks. This was addressed by owner while we were there.

Lovely cottage in central area for visiting Dartmouth, Totnes, Dittisham and Salcombe. Good facilities all round, Sky TV, excellent internet connection, good kitchen facilities, comfortable beds. Just a better sign at the beginning of the track leading to the property! Very peaceful!

This cottage is in a great location - very central for getting to a lot of places in south and central Devon. It is well furnished and equipped and there are lovely views. It is family friendly with a safe, enclosed garden. Very peaceful and friendly, helpful neighbours. It is generally well presented but could do with a 'deep clean'. There is a recurrent problem with the TV - it works through a booster in the neighbouring property and this cuts out sometimes, requiring the neighbours to reset it. We discovered that it was very difficult at times to contact the neighbours, although they're very friendly and helpful when you do get them (the owner was also very helpful but lives some distance away).

Fabulous woodwork throughout the cottage (stairs and doors). Nice bathroom (let down by the grouting). The garden was a bit of a problem with our dog, as it's not enclosed we had to keep her nearby on a lead. overall it was a great experience and I would try another cottage in the future.
