Description

Moorlands Cottage is tucked on the side of a beautiful valley that dips down through ten acres to a stunning moorland lake, bordered by the River Taw and set within Dartmoor National Park in the very heart of Devon. This is wonderful walking country amongst some of the grandest tors on Dartmoor where High Willhays (the highest point in southern England) can be reached in a morning’s walk from the front door. Cranmere Pool, a prime goal for many walkers is where Dartmoor’s oldest letterbox is found. Moorlands, a detached stone cottage, is well equipped, comfortable, has an open fire and is an ideal base to return to after a day spent walking, letterboxing  and exploring Dartmoor or the West Country. This very peaceful spot is a 5 minute stroll into the picturesque village of Belstone with its fine local pub/restaurant, ancient village stocks, medieval church, riding stables and is only 2 miles from the A30 giving easy access to Cornwall and the whole of the West Country. A perfect retreat for a holiday, whatever the time of year.

February 2017

We arrived for our third visit to Moorlands Cottage to the Techno beat of the builders music.....Oh No ! Which for a secluded cottage in the quiet village of Belstone on the edge of the open moorland. Was to say a little disappointing. The owner was very quick to pop around and say if we had any problems to let them know. But I do think we could have been fore warned by Toad Hall Cottages in advance that another holiday cottage was being built some 50 foot away and a team of builders would be working with cement mixer, hammer's and electric saw all week. Most hotels advertise the fact that building work and noise may be expected during a stay, but we were disappointed it was only when we pulled up to park that we were greeted by the builders. The cottage couldn't be faulted for cleanliness or standard of furnishings or equipment.

Excellent stay! The cottage is warm and welcoming. The moors right on the doorstep, it is your backgarden so to speak. Speaking of backgardens: The grounds are there to explore as well. This is worth a small walk toward the Taw River. So pretty... straight from a fairybook. The cottage is set in the most quiet places and we loved every moment!! Thank you, we will come again

May 2015

We found the cottage to far surpass our expectations. The setting/location is stunning; the grounds themselves make the holiday worthwhile, plus there was the added bonus of the village being within easy walking distance and the way access to local sights and attractions. The cottage was very warm and welcoming, the wifi was an extra bonus in the absence of phone signal and everything was provided that we could have needed. Although only next door the owners did not once encroach on our privacy but when asked for information they were extremely friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this cottage, we loved it!

April 2015

March 2015

We really enjoyed our stay at Moorlands Cottage and found it to be a perfect base for exploring all of Devon. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. We loved being right on the moor and enjoyed watching the wildlife. We will miss watching the birds as we eat our breakfast. The owners John and Mel, were extremely friendly and helpful. They came out to meet us on the first night when we struggling to find the cottage in the dark and were also kind enough to help us start our car's flat battery on the morning of departure. However, other than when we needed them they didn't intrude at all. We would highly recommend this cottage and can't wait to return.

May 2014

Moorlands Cottage is perfect for getting away from it all. It is in a great location with plenty of walks from the doorstep. We loved watching the birds outside the window and saw a deer in the grounds on a couple of occasions. The village is beautiful with a welcoming pub serving good food. Mel and Jon were very helpful and friendly. I would love to return!

Fantastic weekend! Excellent all round. Owner met us when we arrived as very dark, he gave us a torch and showed us where to park. Cottage was very clean, warm and we found everything we needed.

March 2014

We were very sad to leave. We had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. A very unique place so near to the moor. Lovely cottage, and we also liked the Pike family. Thank you for the hospitality and all the information of what to do. Thanks

March 2014

We had a lovely, relaxing holiday. The cottage is perfect with all we needed. The views and grounds fantastic. Great walks and visits to places. Will hopefully be returning.

March 2014

I loved this place. It is right in the middle of Dartmoor National Park with woody grounds that sort of melt into it. You can open the front door and step out into the Moors, no traffic/cars, so if you have a dog or children you're not always looking over your shoulder. Owners leave you in peace. Feels very private. Wi fi worked. Bit cold in the kitchen but you can light a fire. Extremely beautiful surroundings. The owner's gardens are extensive and quite wild, so brilliant for kids to explore. Has a river etc. Walks into the moors from the door. Chagford about 25 mins away by car. I would definitely go back.

August 2013

Delightful location in the pretty village of Belstone, right next to the moors. We loved the tranquility, and enjoyed watching the many birds that came to feed outside the window. We would certainly go back again. Only downside was that the hot water pipes were very noisy in the double and twin bedroom.

August 2013

The cottage is cosy and comfortable. The Owner was nearby if there were any problems but didn't intrude. The location is fabulous. The garden and stream are magical and to be able to walk out of the cottage onto the Moor is wonderful.
