Actually nothing to do with Winnie The Pooh ! (sorry about that) … but a modern conversion of an old Cornish Piggery situated in the parish of Gwennap - an area rich in tin and copper mining history. You'll find beautiful, unspoilt countryside, ramshackle mining stacks, and traffic-free trails that follow the routes of the old mineral tramways- ideal for walkers, cyclists and nature-lovers to explore the region.
PigLet is perfect for a couple, but the sofa can also be opened up to use as an occasional bed, thus sleeping three. There's a bright open-plan living area incorporating the kitchen, dining and living areas. Patio doors lead onto the substantial decking from both the living room and double bedroom, especially super for both the views and evening sunsets. You might even see the local fox having a wander through the fields at tea-time!

Beautifully located for those who want to relax and reconvene with nature, PigLet is also within easy access of the A30, opening up most of the county within an hour's drive. Locally, you'll have Gwennap Pit, an open-air amphitheatre where Methodist Minister John Wesley first preached to a Cornish congregation in 1773. There's Carn Brea, a Neolithic hilltop settlement with a 90ft granite obelisk on its summit. Local legend tells of a giant called Bolster who, when standing, could put one foot on Carn Brea and the other on St Agnes Beacon over ten miles away! Whether true or not, the views from here are outstanding. You'll also have Carn Marth, just to the south of Piglet, and one of the highest points in Cornwall at 235 metres above sea level. The area is a designated wildlife sanctuary and accessed via one of the many local footpaths and bridleways.
Further afield, the beautiful dog-friendly beach at Perranporth is 10 miles from Piglet, as is the bustling harbour town of Falmouth. The city of Truro is 8 miles away, and other popular places such as as St Ives, Penzance and the Lizard are all within an hour's drive.

Front door to open-plan living area with wooden floor.

Contemporary kitchen equipped with integrated hob, oven, microwave,  dishwasher and fridge with freezer box. Unfortunately, there isn't a washing machine at PigLet, but there is a launderette in Pool, 3 miles away. However, the property owner, Tom, will pop a load on for you, if you are struggling.

The dining area has a table and chairs.

Living area with sofa (can be turned into an occasional bed), cantilever lounge chair, wall-mounted TV and telescope for a close up on nature. Patio doors to outside decking.

Bathroom with corner cubicle Mira Sport shower, W.C., hand basin and heated towel rail.

Bedroom with 5ft king-size bed, wardrobe, bedside tables and Ottoman storage. Patio doors to outside decking.

Decking running across width of property. Two rattan-effect sofas with cushions, and feature granite coffee table. Glass balustrade across the front, gates and fence to side, making the area secure for your dog.

Tucked away in mid Cornwall Gwennap is a hidden gem with an interesting history.  Copper mining in the 18th century led the parish to be known as the ‘Richest square mile in the old world’ and today is a World Heritage Site protecting the fascinating Gwennap Pit Rings.  Thought to be the result of a collapsed tin mine this open-air amphitheatre seating up to 1500 people was made famous by Methodist founder John Wesley who often preached there.  Modern visitors can enjoy live theatre and music performances at Gwennap or simply marvel at the impressive acoustics.

Holidays in Gwennap are all about enjoying the great outdoors with lots to do in the surrounding area.  Circular walks from the village take you down country lanes lined with rhododendrons past the 13th century Gwennap church and on to the abandoned Pennance Mine, the beautiful lake at Carn Marth or Neolithic hilltop settlement of Carn Brea.  Other days could find you travelling just a few miles by car to the wide sandy beach at Perranporth on the north coast, the Fal River and beaches at Falmouth to the south or browsing the boutiques and galleries of Truro.

Holidays in Gwennap are ideal for those looking for a taste of Cornish history whilst also being able to enjoy all the beaches and natural beauty the area has to offer.

Space for two cars at the front, and to the right, of property.

A lovely beach but does get a bit crowded sometimes. Parking can be a problem in busy times too.

September 2021

Even in the middle of what has been one of the busiest summers cornwall has seen, this still offered space and attractions without the crowds. Loved being able to take the dog for a swim before 10am and after 6pm

Beach was very busy when we visited with long queues for food. We took the coastal path and things were much quieter. There were a lot of dog walkers enjoying the path and not all of them were cleaning up after their dogs.

PigLet is an absolutely beautiful cottage in the middle of outstanding countryside. It is spotless and has everything you need. Beautiful views and lots of wonderful wildlife to watch and glorious sunsets. Such a lovely touch to be welcomed with a cream tea and a goody bag for our dog. I don't think this cottage could be improved in any way. ..it's perfect. It was lovely to meet Tom who was very helpful. We had a lovely week and we're sorry to leave. Thank you also to the team at Toad Hall who were amazing.

August 2023

Cottage was almost perfect ,apart from sofa being uncomfortable.

July 2023

Enjoyed our stay, surrounded by lovely countryside. Finding Piglet was a very challenging, due to the mayhem on the A30 currently. A warning of the problems might have helped. Fortunately the owner kindly talked us in.

June 2023

Loved it and thank you for the cream tea and Buddy’s doggie welcome bag x

July 2022

A really lovely setting, with views you could look at all day and totally peaceful. It was nice to escape from the busier seaside towns and villages but still have fabulous beaches and the whole of South Cornwall within easy reach by car. It is just a short walk behind the cottage up to Carn Marth with a view point of north and south coasts and a beautiful pool – great for wild swimmers! Well-appointed and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the decking area with sofas, to sit with a glass of wine and watch the wildlife and fabulous sunsets. Would love to be back at PigLet!

June 2022

September 2021

We had the most wonderful relaxing holiday while staying at PigLet, scones cream and jam left for us and enough tea and coffee to see us through ? xx a lovely touch when arriving after a long journey. The cottage is finished to a very high standard but also comfortable. The bed was lovely, lots of afternoon naps! The team at Toad Hall were extremely helpful and could not have done anymore to help us with this late booking. We will definitely be using Toad Hall cottages again as nothing was to much trouble.

Oh, this gives me such pleasure! Afternoon naps are definitely the way forward! And I totally agree that PigLet has been beautifully renovated and furnished. We look forward to welcoming you back to Toad Hall in the future - many thanks for your kind words.

August 2021

We had a wonderful time. The location was great for us as so peaceful but car is essential. The house was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed. It has been renovated to a very high standard.

That is so wonderful to hear, especially as you one of the first guests to PigLet! I actually want to spend a week there myself, just for the peace and quiet!

July 2021

We've just arrived home after a wonderful week staying in PigLet - what a gem!! Beautifully appointed, with home from home comforts (the bed is so comfortable), even my 8yr old commented on how lovely it was. The views are stunning, and it was a treat to open the curtains each morning and see what wildlife was about. We spent a lot of time at the local beaches (Portreath and Porthtowan) but also ventured down to Land's End, St Ives and up to Newquay, the location is superb for exploring. Lots of footpaths and bridleways on the doorstep if you don't want to drive too much. We were very sad to leave PigLet and we just can't wait to go back.

That's really good to hear, and I'm so pleased you found so much of Cornwall accessible. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future!
