Located on the seafront overlooking the beach at Torcross, Shingle House offers guests the opportunity of a superb seaside holiday whilst enjoying the ambiance of a comfortable and tastefully renovated home from home. There’s a large living room with wood burner providing plenty of space to relax, a modern and well equipped kitchen diner and four generous bedrooms; two with en suite shower rooms.

A front terrace overlooks the seafront where you can watch the world go by and at the rear of the house there is parking for two cars.

Torcross has a welcoming pub serving good food, a small shop, cafes and of course the beach. Slapton Ley behind the Torcross line is a freshwater nature reserve and the South West Coastal Path allows walkers to enjoy some stunning cliff walks along the coast. Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe are all easily accessible and provide great days out, whether you like pottering around, eating out or enjoying the sandy beaches of Salcombe.

Please Note: For guest numbers of 4 or less in the low and mid season periods only 2 bedrooms will be made up.  Please advise us of your choice of double or twin bedrooms at time of booking, otherwise either two double bedrooms, (for a party of four adults), or one double and one twin bedroom, (for a party with children), will be made up. If a party of 4 or less require a third bedroom made up the price will revert to the full tariff.


Rear door to modern kitchen diner equipped with ceramic hob, eye level oven and grill, large American style fridge freezer with cold water dispenser, dishwasher and microwave.  Dining area with views of Slapton Ley and extending table which can seat 8. Adjacent utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and sink. Large open plan sitting roomwith seas views, comfortably furnished with 2 sofas and 3 armchairs, 46 inch TV, DVD and Sonos music system. Boot room at the front of the property with plenty of room for coats and beach equipment and door to the front terrace. Stairs to half landing and modern family bathroom with bath with shower over, hand basin and WC. First floor: Bedroom 1. Large double bedroom with patio doors to full width balcony and superb sea views, 5ft king size bed and en suite with shower cubicle, hand basin and WC. Bedroom 2. Twin bedroom with 3ft single beds. Second floor: Bedroom 3. Double bedroom with sea views, 5ft king size bed and en suite with shower cubicle, hand basin and WC.  Bedroom 4. Twin bedroom with 3ft single beds.

Front terrace with picnic table and benches and gate to seafront. Small rear decked area with views of the Ley and garden chairs.

For 2 medium size cars. Additional council parking available opposite or in nearby car park, charges apply.

Local Facilities: Torcross Beach in front of the house. Other beaches include Beesands via 1 mile cliff top walk or short (2 mile) drive, Blackpool sands 4 miles and East Portlemouth 5 miles. Village shop, good pub and cafe on Torcross sea front. Farm shop in Stokenham 1 mile. Garage with good food and leisure shop, East Charleton 3 miles.  Kingsbridge with all facilities 6 miles. Dartmouth 8 miles.

We loved the cottage and its location next to the beach with sea views to one side and views over the lake into the hills on the other is stunning. The cottage is very comfortable and spacious for a large party of 8, including small children and a dog. We will return!

We had a fantastic holiday. We used to stay in shingle house a few years ago and it was lovely then but since the modernisation it is even better! Can't wait until next year. the Start Bay and Boat House do great food and the Sea Breeze is fantastic for cream teas and milk shakes!
