The Barn is an attractive, two storey property providing spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation in a  beautiful location. One of three holiday properties in this location, The Barn is set in the grounds of a 17th century former manor house at Monkton Wyld, just north of the A35 on the Dorset/Devon border. The pretty West Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis is about five minutes drive to the south and the attractive East Devon market town of Axminster, home to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's popular River Cottage shop and restaurant, is about 10 minutes drive to the west. This property is ideally suited to those seeking a countryside location close to the seaside, or for walkers who will be drawn to this wonderful spot by the wealth of walking countryside right on the doorstep. Anyone wanting to explore the local area by car will find themselves well placed to easily access the many attractions of East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset. 

The open-plan ground floor comprises a large sitting room, with traditional flagstone floor and a cosy log burner, leading on to a well equipped, fitted kitchen with dining area. There are two spacious bedrooms set into the eves of the first floor. Guests in The Barn have access to six acres of grounds, including wild meadows and a small lake (coarse fishing allowed), and are free to wander and enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is encouraged by the welcoming owner. Ground floor: Open plan sitting room with TV/DVD /CD and log burner, dining area and open plan fitted kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Bathroom with bath, shower over bath and WC. First floor: Bedroom 1 with a king size bed. Bedroom 2 with three single beds. Separate WC with wash basin. Free use of a shared utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer on-site.

Access to six acres of grounds including meadows, woods and lake.

Off-road parking for two cars.

An extremely relaxing break in a beautifully maintained cottage amongst great surrounding countryside. The owner was helpful, polite and always on hand for to provide guidance on how to make the most of our break. I would strongly recommend this property to friends and family and will be looking to visit again in the future.

The owner was lovely and very helpful, everything you could need was on hand and it was really like a home from home. Lovely cottage and grounds, do note that the main field and pond are a short walk from the cottages. The cottages are almost in a courtyard effect adjacent to the owners home, so not necessarily the open space where you can sit outside the property and let children or dogs play. Axminster is a short drive for local groceries etc and The Hunters Lodge on the main road to Axminster is well worth a stop for a meal, do book though as they get very busy. The location of the property is good as it is just off the main road, so you can easily get to most places, you can hear traffic noise outside but it is not intrusive at all. We had a very relaxing holiday and would recommend any of the properties at this location.

Mrs Sienese the owner was extremely helpful. Often pictures on websites seem better than in real life. In this case in was the opposite. The photos did not do it justice. Everything was immaculately clean. What I liked in particular about this property was that the character had not been removed from it. The furnishings were older fashioned in style but in keeping with the property. The rooms are extremely spacious and it was generously stocked with tea, sugar, bottled water, toilet paper, kitchen roll. At a lot of properties I have stayed at which have been double the price, the cupboards have been completely bare. The fishing lake was a bonus, as was the land surrounding it. My children are keen footballers and they had plenty of space to run around and kick a football. They also caught many fish in the lake. Lyme Regis is 5 minutes in the car as it Charmouth which is the best place to go for fossil hunting. I would highly recommend this property, a real gem.

Excellent cottage and very dog friendly, with a lovely pond that our boys loved swimming in. Easy access to Lyme Regis, Axminster and West Bay, with excellent walks throughout. The property is only 100 yards from the A35 and on arrival we were concerned that road noise would be an issue. The property is set below road level and lined by trees so road noise was not a problem at all. I would definitely recommend this property, and stay again myself.

We had a lovely weekend at The Barn and had a very nice greeting from Judy, the owner, on our arrival. The location was great and perfect for taking our labrador Charlie with us, who had a brilliant time running around the beautiful countryside on our doorstep. We would recommend this holiday let and will probably return again ourselves. Thank you for a lovely break, Ros & Simon Noad (and Charlie!)

Second time we have stayed at this cottage, really lovely, well placed for Charmouth & Lyme Regis. Large private parking area and a great garden to exercise the dog. Would recommend and would stay there again.
