The downstairs living area is open plan, with comfortable seating arranged around a roaring log burner for cosy out of season breaks. The kitchen is equipped with Neff appliances and a tempting welcome hamper of local produce awaits your arrival. A breakfast bar provides a sociable perch and bi-fold doors open onto the small rear garden, with outdoor seating and charcoal barbecue. Upstairs are two comfortable en-suite bedrooms, with views across the surrounding countryside. Crisp linens and fluffy towels offer a real luxurious feel.
Whitsbury is a part of a group of villages on the edge of the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With a charming village pub and countryside walks in every direction, The Chapel is a great base for exploring the local area. Fordingbridge is a short drive away, with a selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, some overlooking the River Avon as it meanders through the town. The food at The Cartwheel Inn is amazing, and people travel from afar to eat here. This popular, off the beaten track country pub, is a wonderful destination. You can sit outside in the large, sunny beer garden which has lots to keep the children entertained. And in the winter months, a log fire crackles away to keep you warm and cosy. Service is fast and friendly, and the pubs selection of drinks should be enough to keep everyone happy.

We were staying in the village and visited the Cartwheel several times for just a drink or meals they were lovely people and welcomed us and our small dog every time, the atmosphere was excellent, food excellent we would recommend to everyone…..I am coeliac and nothing was too much trouble.

In the pretty village of Rockborne, you’ll find the Rose and Thistle pub, which was once three thatched cottages, dating back to 1580. Inside it’s cosy and appealingly pretty with a large open fire. Outside there’s a beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating. The food here is all about being local and having provenance - game is a specialty. Once in the kitchen, ingredients are transformed in to delicious dishes in big portions. There’s a good selection of ales, wines and spirits served by friendly, efficient staff.

Great pub. Dog and child friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. Had booked ahead and had a lovely table next to the big log fire. The food was fantastic. Even my fussy 6 year old ate pretty much all of his Mac and Cheese as it was just as he likes it and very yummy. Highly recommend the Steak and Kidney Pudding, delicious!

A lovely pub on the A338 between Fordingbridge and Salisbury. The menu and specials board are quirky and fun, with the addition of some South African dishes bringing a wry smile. Logs fires snap and crackle in the winter months and when it’s warm, outdoor seating in the sunny beer garden is available. There’s a good selection of drinks at The Bat and Ball, including a range of fine beers. Dogs welcome.

Had Sunday lunch and took our little dog so sat in the marquee. Lovely setting, very friendly efficient staff. We chose the 3 meats roast which was amazing. Enjoyed it so much we returned on the Thursday night and the same friendly waiter served us. Again excellent food and service. Highly recommend, just wish we lived nearer.

A superb gastro country pub, with heaps of character in a stunning village setting. There’s a plentiful choice of drinks and a good selection of real ales. The Compass Inn has two bars and collection of dining rooms, each with a lovely atmosphere and candlelit in the evenings. Outside is a huge beer garden and playing field for the kids to run around. Food is absolutely delicious, making good use of local produce with excellent cooking. Dogs welcome.

Recently re-opened after renovation. Dogs allowed in the bar area, and menu is wide-ranging if a little on the expensive side. A further attraction are ponies and donkeys in the garden and pub car-park! Same landlord (Jason) as that at the Bat and Ball at Breamore, and often the same staff. As it is in the centre of the village, used by many younger residents which makes its more expensive range perhaps harder to justify. Perhaps waiting to re-establish itself to get the balance right

Fantastic place we ate there on several occassions staying at Beck cottage next door. We were a group of 11 6 adults and 5 children 2 of which have special needs all were accomadated even on the night when they had run out of what one of the children needed due to there Autism it is hard for them to chamnge from what they had chosen but the server worked with him staying calm and come up with a solution took some 15 mins so thank you for that. We were all accomadated on the same table. The food was of a very high standard and no over priced. Recomend it to anyone. On the weekend that we were there they had a beer festival with live music we did not attend due to the kids but was not overly loud, but was very good and i can vouch for the quality of the real ales and ciders.

Rockbourne Roman Villa

Take a step back in time to visit this Roman villa which was discovered in 1942 thanks to the remains of oyster shells and tiles. Once excavated, the treasures kept coming with a mosaic floor and foundations making themselves apparent until the entire villa was uncovered, not to mention the remains of an Iron Age timber roundhouse as well. Set in beautiful parkland, the Elizabethan Manor House and Countryside Museum are open for visitors from April until the end of October. The Countryside Museum provides a fascinating insight into the days when the village was self-sufficient, with full size replicas including a blacksmith, village shop, school and dairy. It also boasts one of the finest collections of steam powered farm machinery, tractors, barn machinery and historical tools.

When it comes to water sports and activities in the New Forest, the New Forest Water Park is hard to beat. From wake boarding to inflatables, it is an adventurer’s paradise. It’s family friendly and with camping available you can visit for a few hours or a few days, depending on your endurance levels!

Expensive but worth it. Visited by 13 year old and Father. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You need to be able to climb out of the water yourself and on to the equipment. You MUST be able to get your face wet without being scared! Please also note that there is no point in going to watch a family member take part in this activity - you cannot see from the viewing area.

We only did the inflatable part of the park but it was great fun, plenty of time to get around the whole thing and do all the best bits over again until exhaustion takes hold! I strongly suggest getting there at least 20 minutes before your booked time though as we were essentially told off for arriving late even though we were there for the time we booked for.

Highcliffe Beach

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.
To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A picturesque, tree-lined beach of shingle, and sand at low tide. Good facilities on the cliff top including an excellent tea room, public toilets, baby change and a children’s play area in the Castle gardens. Plenty of parking and sloping access down to the beach. Highcliffe Castle beach is dog-friendly all year round.

Avon Beach

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all. For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months. This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

Boscombe is a popular family beach with plenty of sand, and a small pier with extensive facilities including a children’s play area, several seafront shops and cafés, crazy golf, plenty of parking and a safe traffic free area perfect for cycling and scooters.
Lovely beach, we enjoyed our walk and we look forward to visiting again when we are next on holiday in the New Forest.

Southbourne Beach

Southbourne Beach is a Blue flag award winning beach with wide, clean, part sand and part shingle beach to the east of Boscombe Pier. With views stretching right across to the Isle of Wight on a clear day and Old Harry Rocks/Swanage to the west.
The beach is popular all year round and during the summer months you can find kiosks serving ice creams and drinks dotted along the promenade.
Other facilities include toilets, baby changing facilities, lost children centres, RNLI lifeguard stations and pubs. There are many beach huts along Southbourne Beach and they are available to rent all year round from the local beach office.
Dogs are not permitted on Southbourne beach from 1st May – 30th September however they are permitted on the promenades all year round when on a lead.
Wonderful sandy, dog friendly beach with spectacular, far fetching views. The addition of Sobo serving fantastic coffee is great.

Beautiful accommodation. The Chapel has been sensitively and thoughtfully converted with a high quality finish. It is very cosy and comfortable. The views of the surrounding fields are wonderful we saw deer, horses and rabbits and so many different kinds of birds. The kitchen is excellently equipped with everything you could possibly need and the owners are very considerate of guests with dogs providing dog bowls and even old towels for wiping muddy paws. We loved our stay and I highly recommend doing the easy walk along the bridleway across the fields/woods to the Rose and Thistle in Rockbourne. Beautiful walk and an excellent dog and child friendly pub. Just wear wellies if its been raining!

Beautiful accommodation. The Chapel has been sensitively and thoughtfully converted with a high quality finish. It is very cosy and comfortable. The views of the surrounding fields are wonderful we saw deer, horses and rabbits and so many different kinds of birds. The kitchen is excellently equipped with everything you could possibly need and the owners are very considerate of guests with dogs providing dog bowls and even old towels for wiping muddy paws. We loved our stay and I highly recommend doing the easy walk along the bridleway across the fields/woods to the Rose and Thistle in Rockbourne. Beautiful walk and an excellent dog and child friendly pub. Just wear wellies if its been raining!

The food at The Cartwheel Inn is amazing, and people travel from afar to eat here. This popular, off the beaten track country pub, is a wonderful destination. You can sit outside in the large, sunny beer garden which has lots to keep the children entertained. And in the winter months, a log fire crackles away to keep you warm and cosy. Service is fast and friendly, and the pubs selection of drinks should be enough to keep everyone happy.

Recently re-opened after renovation. Dogs allowed in the bar area, and menu is wide-ranging if a little on the expensive side. A further attraction are ponies and donkeys in the garden and pub car-park! Same landlord (Jason) as that at the Bat and Ball at Breamore, and often the same staff. As it is in the centre of the village, used by many younger residents which makes its more expensive range perhaps harder to justify. Perhaps waiting to re-establish itself to get the balance right

Fantastic place we ate there on several occassions staying at Beck cottage next door. We were a group of 11 6 adults and 5 children 2 of which have special needs all were accomadated even on the night when they had run out of what one of the children needed due to there Autism it is hard for them to chamnge from what they had chosen but the server worked with him staying calm and come up with a solution took some 15 mins so thank you for that. We were all accomadated on the same table. The food was of a very high standard and no over priced. Recomend it to anyone. On the weekend that we were there they had a beer festival with live music we did not attend due to the kids but was not overly loud, but was very good and i can vouch for the quality of the real ales and ciders.

The Countryside Museum provides a fascinating insight into the days when the village was self-sufficient, with full size replicas including a blacksmith, village shop, school and dairy. You MUST be able to get your face wet without being scared! Please also note that there is no point in going to watch a family member take part in this activity - you cannot see from the viewing area.

We only did the inflatable part of the park but it was great fun, plenty of time to get around the whole thing and do all the best bits over again until exhaustion takes hold! I strongly suggest getting there at least 20 minutes before your booked time though as we were essentially told off for arriving late even though we were there for the time we booked for.

Highcliffe Beach

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.
To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all. For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months. This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

Southbourne Beach is a Blue flag award winning beach with wide, clean, part sand and part shingle beach to the east of Boscombe Pier. With views stretching right across to the Isle of Wight on a clear day and Old Harry Rocks/Swanage to the west.
The beach is popular all year round and during the summer months you can find kiosks serving ice creams and drinks dotted along the promenade.
Other facilities include toilets, baby changing facilities, lost children centres, RNLI lifeguard stations and pubs. There are many beach huts along Southbourne Beach and they are available to rent all year round from the local beach office.
Dogs are not permitted on Southbourne beach from 1st May – 30th September however they are permitted on the promenades all year round when on a lead.
Wonderful sandy, dog friendly beach with spectacular, far fetching views. The addition of Sobo serving fantastic coffee is great.
