Recently built in a traditional style, The Thatch provides comfortable, high quality holiday accommodation for couples and families in a wonderful location. One of three holiday properties on this site, The Thatch is located in the grounds of a 17th century former manor house at Monkton Wyld, just north of the A35 on the Dorset/Devon border. The pretty West Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis is about 3.5 miles to the south and the attractive East Devon market town of Axminster, home to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's popular River Cottage shop and restaurant, is about 4.5 miles to the west. This property is ideally suited to those seeking a countryside location close to the sea, or for walkers who will be drawn to this wonderful location by the wealth of walking countryside right on the doorstep. Visitors wanting to explore the local area will find themselves well placed to easily access the many attractions of East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset. 

This single floor thatched cottage comprises an open plan sitting room with a cosy log burner, a well equipped fitted kitchen and open dining area. A small conservatory/sunroom extends the living accommodation to provide the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a morning cup of tea in the sunshine. With the two bedrooms also on the ground floor, this cottage is additionally well suited to those with limited mobility or those holidaying with very young children. There is a small seating area with furniture outside the cottage. Guests also have access to six acres of grounds, including wild meadows and a small lake (coarse fishing allowed) and are free to wander and enjoy the abundance of wildlife that is encouraged by the welcoming owner.

All on one level. Ground floor: Open plan sitting room with TV/DVD/video/CD and log burner, dining area and open plan fitted kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Small sunroom/conservatory. Bedroom 1 with a king size bed. Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Bathroom with bath, shower over bath and WC. Free use of a shared utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer on-site.

Open seating area with furniture as well as access to six acres of grounds including meadows, woods and lake.

Off-road parking for two cars.

Yes we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thank you. The owner was very nice and helpful and as someone who needs a supportive mattress for my back I did find the double bed very comfortable. The cottage is ideally placed for touring round the area . You can hear the adjacent main road but we didn’t find it to be a problem. We would definitely go back again and have in fact already recommended it to friends.

Lovely cottage the only issue although small was the road noice from the A35

We had 2 weeks there and really enjoyed it. It feels like home and has everything you need including a private field to walk the dog in. It is close to the A35 and although you get some noise from it this does not bother us as we are central to lots of places and makes getting around easy.

We had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay in this lovely little cottage. It was warm, spotless and well equipped, with really fantastic safe outside space for our dog (and children). Very easy to find, off the A35 (so aware of some passing traffic). The owner was friendly and informative and lives in the main house. It was a super base for our family to explore the beaches of the Jurassic coast. 10/10 from us.

Fanatastic accommodation. Beautifully presented in a lovely setting. We have stayed in accommodation catered for dogs before and have always thought they were sub-standard in someway, but "the thatch" was absolutely spotless, not one dog hair in sight. The images on the website do not do this property justice. This accommodation is perfect for those who would like to take a step back after a day out with the hustle and bustle of Lyme Regis or Weymouth and relax on an evening in a peaceful setting. Would definitely stay again when visting the area.

An exceptionally clean and welcoming cottage with everything we needed. Great securely fenced field for dogs. Easy access to several beaches and to Lyme Regis. Owner helpful and informative. We had a lovely, relaxing stay.
