Made up of the coastal counties of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, and the cultural, countryside county of Cambridgeshire, a holiday in the East of England is hugely varied, yet right on the doorstep of the capital city. This historic corner of the country is filled with quintessentially English villages, ancient castles, sweeping sandy beaches and traditional seaside resorts.

With 500 miles of coastline, the East of England offers beach breaks of all kinds. For good, old-fashioned seaside charm, try Great Yarmouth, home to the fish and chip takeaways, ice cream parlours and amusements, or Southend-on-Sea in Essex, where you’ll find the world’s longest pleasure pier. You’ll find pastel painted beach huts at Southwold in Suffolk or Norfolk’s Wells-Next-The-Sea. But if wild sand dunes and vast, empty shores are more your thing, you’ll find endless unspoilt beaches all along East Anglia’s coast, perfect for coastal strolls and sea swims.

Inland, the East of England’s countryside is equally beautiful. Explore the labyrinth of rivers and waterways of the Norfolk Broads by boat, travelling through reedbeds and fenlands to moor up at riverside pubs. Head to picture-perfect Constable Country and see first hand the stunning landscapes that inspired famous artist John Constable. Wander through the pines of Thetford Forest in the Brecks, or punt past the cloisters and college greens of one of the world’s most famous universities in Cambridge.

A holiday in East Anglia offers a treasure trove for history lovers, with such a rich and varied past. Today you’ll find roman remains, motte and bailey castles, stunning cathedrals and vast stately homes. In Essex, stroll the streets of Britain’s first city, Colchester, or live like a royal for the day when you visit Sandringham in Norfolk.

The East of England really does cater for all. Enjoy a dog friendly holiday exploring the coastal paths and country lanes, sneak some peace on a romantic countryside getaway, or fill an action-packed family holiday with trips to the region’s zoos, theme parks, spas and activity centres. From shopping to watersports and country pubs to seafood shacks - whatever makes you happiest, you’ll find it here.
