5 Coastguard Cottages sits on the southernmost point of Devon, looking out to sea, a mile from East Prawle. With stunning views over the coastline at the front, and countryside views to the rear, this cottage has been extended to create a spacious and elegant 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom family home which is equally as cosy for small groups and couples. With direct access to the South West Coast Path the picturesque location is the perfect place to explore tucked away coves and clifftop walks and then unwind at the end of a busy day with a chilled glass of wine on the terrace admiring the views or relax cosied up around the log burner on winter evenings.

The village of East Prawle is full of local charm offering a café and shop (open seasonally) and a popular local pub, The Pigs Nose Inn, known for its quirky style and the attached hall which is a popular live music venue. All  of these are situated around the pretty village green. There are lovely beaches on this stretch of coastline, including Maceley Cove, a mile round the cliff path, Gara Rock, 2 ½ miles, Mattiscombe Sands and Lannacombe  4 and 3 miles respectively, all of  which can be reached via the SW Coast Path or by roads to the top of the paths down to the beaches. East Portlemouth, nearby, has a passenger ferry to the popular sailing town of Salcombe with restaurants, cafes and shops. The bustling market town of Kingsbridge is a thirty minute drive away, and historic Dartmouth is a ten mile drive along the scenic coastal road with plenty of places to stop and enjoy en route. A fantastic location to explore all the glorious South Hams has to offer.

From access door to inner hallway, with coat hooks and shoe racks, leading to modern kitchen: dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, and to stunning open plan lounge diner:  dining table and seating for 8, CD stereo, 2 three seater sofas, and 2 easy chairs. Multi-fuel burner, TV and DVD. Ground floor WC and washbasin. Stairs to first floor master double bedroom with 5’ bed, sea views, en-suite bathroom. Twin bedroom:  3 foot beds, which can be joined to make another double bed.  Bunk bedroom:  lower bunk is 4’ 10’’ loft bed above is 3’’.  Shower room:  WC, shower cubicle and hand basin. Stairs to second floor,  master attic bedroom: zip link bed (please specify if you require this room to be made as a twin at time of booking) with sea views to the front and countryside views to the rear, en-suite wet room with shower, hand basin and WC.

Outhouse: Additional fridge, freezer and tumble dryer.

To the front, terrace with views out to sea, table and seating for 8. Delightful garden with lawn which slopes down towards the coast path and the sea.  To the rear, yard with trees, flowers and washing line.

One allocated space, several extra unallocated spaces and additional free parking in National Trust car park 200 yards away.

  • Included: Bed linen,  towels, (Guests to bring own beach towels) cot, high chair, stairgate, electricity and night storage heating, wood burner (fire made up & initial basket of logs provided October-March).
  • Telephone: Landline. Poor or non-existent mobile reception.
  • Wi-Fi: Broadband available (unlimited).
  • Pets: One well-behaved dog welcome at £25.00 per week. (£30.00 from Jan 2019)

Yes, very much. Minor issue - The DVD player did not appear to be connected to the TV.

Very much enjoyed as an ex owner we were very impressed with the standard now being reached. A welcome pack (milk, wine etc) might have made it better!

Such a wonderful and lovely cottage in a spectacular location. We had such a fantastic relaxing week and couldn’t have asked for anything more. It has a very homely feel, the views are stunning and if you are looking for a remote location to completely unwind this is the place for you.

We had a good stay,apart from the items above

Thank you for letting us know that the refuse collection had been missed and the previous guests had not cleared up after their dog. We are sorry that you arrived to this and we have asked the cleaners to be vigilant in checking the garden during the changeover. We hope to see you again soon.
