Description

Berry's Barn is a stunning conversion which has transformed a former cider press farm building into very stylish holiday accommodation.  Recently completed by the owners of this working farm and lovingly refurbished to provide a high quality, spacious property in a truly rural setting.  Located on the outskirts of the pretty village of Colyton, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and only a short drive from the magnificent Jurassic coast of East Devon and West Dorset.  This attractive stone cottage has been sympathetically restored, retaining much of the character of the original building. The recent conversion means the barn benefits from the added comforts of  pristine new bathrooms as well as a stunning modern fitted kitchen, outdoor patios with seating and a games room.  Environmentally-friendly under floor heating make this a great choice for out-of-season breaks too.   The history of the property has been cleverly captured by retaining artefacts set into the rafters to display the original farm machinery that was used to drive the cider making process in the last century.  The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking and the beautiful coast, famous for its fossil beaches is just 5 miles away.  

A short drive away are the popular coastal towns of Seaton, Beer, Charmouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay.  The popular Seaton Tramway, running along the Axe estuary, stops nearby offering a relaxing way to discover the local area. The whole of the Jurassic Coast, now a World Heritage site, is within easy reach and the lovely West Dorset seaside town of Lyme Regis is only 15 minutes away by car with its sandy beach and seafront promenade.  The town includes celebrity chef Mark Hix's superb Oyster and Fish Restaurant, along with many other restaurants, cafes, pubs and tearooms. For those that enjoy a culinary treat, celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage shop and restaurant are also only a short drive away in the East Devon market town of Axminster.

This property is the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. Finished to an extremely high standard it was perfect for our family holiday. The owners are friendly and helpful. There is ample parking for three cars, the two courtyards are dog and child proof, there are fantastic walks from the property and the coast is within a short drive. The games room is home to toys and games as well as table tennis, snooker and table football. There is even an exercise machine! There are also a selection of board games in the house. There is also a large BBQ and comfortable outside furniture. The beds are comfortable, hot water is plentiful and the property has heating controls in the rooms so you are in control of the temperature. My granddaughter loved going to see the 'moo cows' in the farmyard. The welcome pack of cheese, crackers and wine was lovely, even the dogs got their own welcome pack of food and treats. Our mobile phone signal was a bit hit and miss (O2) but the wifi is fast. There is also Netflix available on the tv. The only thing missing was stair gates but the owners bought one for us to use when we asked. All in all a fantastic place to stay.

A beautiful property, well presented, immaculately clean and welcoming. The cheese and prosecco on arrival was a lovely touch and the treats left for out dog Molly, greatly appreciated! Would benefit from somewhere to hang dressing gowns etc in bedrooms, but this is only a minor thing. Met the owners who were lovely and should be extremely proud of the barn. Overall, a great place to holiday. Thank you.

The Barn was one of the best appointed properties we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot! Loved the location as we enjoyed the lazy walks down the river to Colyton and it is in a beautiful environment. Paula and Steve and Steves Mum were very friendly and left us to it but were on hand if needed. Lovely welcoming pack for the kids and the dog. Games room was great too. A few things to mention: Hand towel and another tea towel for kitchen would be useful. A few shelves on the wall in the games room would be useful to put drinks on. I think in the summer there might be an issue with flies with it being next to cow shed ! A warning about the potential beach dog fine in Lyme Regis from 1 April would be useful in the info. I think it said they were excluded from 1st May but its 1st April. I know now there are signs on the beach that we missed whilst eating pasties and trying to dodge seagulls and the dog warden came along. The dog was on the lead and fine but he gave us a stern warning and nearly charged us £75. It would be helpful to get heads up about the rule and the fine. We are new to dog ownership so not completly familiar with all this stuff yet. Overall , wonderful holiday and in a really lovely, well thought out and comfortable property. Thank you Mrs Rushen

We are delighted you loved the property and enjoyed the nearby river walks at Colyton. We have received fabulous reviews for Berry's Barn and we know some guests have been shown around the farm by the owner, which only has the farm machinery in the yard. I would like to clarify the farm breeds Aberdeen Angus and the cattle are located in fields. They do not come into the yard and therefore there is no issue with flies during the warmer climes. If the children are fascinated with tractors they might catch glimpses of them from time to time. Thank you for highlighting the dog restrictions at Lyme Regis - most helpful for guests staying in April.

It was actually oct 24th fior 4 nights. What a lovely property . Everything was top quality and the kitchen was to die for. Very comfortable beds, plenty of space and very well equipped. Close enough to all the local attractions to visit easily. We enjoyed visits to Sidmouth , Beer and Lyme Regis, and took the Seaton tramway from Colyton station to Seaton and back. Plenty of local eating places but the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in ! We hope to return.
