If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of normal life, a holiday in Cubert is guaranteed to provide you with exactly that. Set just over a mile inland from Holywell Bay, you’ll soon fall in love with the gorgeous coastal scenery and relaxed pace of life in this friendly Cornish village.

Nestled on Cornwall’s north coast, five miles west of Newquay, Cubert is surrounded by beautiful beaches and sweeping bays. Holywell Bay is the nearest beach, only a three minute drive or 20-minute walk away, while Crantock, Perranporth and Porth Joke are also nearby. Here, powerful Atlantic waves line golden sands and craggy rock-pools, jam-packed with marine life.

A stay in Cubert wouldn’t be complete without taking to North Cornwall’s famously good waves. In fact, the surfing conditions here are some of the best in the country! Experienced surfers will be spoilt for choice, while beginners needing lessons will find expert tuition and equipment hire at Holywell Bay, Perranporth and nearby Newquay.

But holidays in Cubert aren’t just about the beach. The village itself has lots to offer, with a little grocery shop, a selection of places to eat, a beautiful thatched pub and a quirky church that was struck by lightning. The surrounding area is teeming with history, including two holy wells, one of which lies in a magical sea cave on Holywell Bay beach. It’s only accessible at low tide and was thought to have curative powers!

Take your time to explore the spectacular countryside that surrounds Cubert. Pack your rucksack with Cornish pasties and a flask of tea and enjoy a blustery walk along the coastal paths for superb views of craggy cliff faces, sea birds and rolling swell. And with so much open space, there’s no reason to leave your dog behind.

For rainy days and family-friendly attractions, head to Newquay and visit the zoo, aquarium, cinema, bowling alleys and crazy golf. From beachside seafood restaurants and cosy pubs to supermarkets, shops and nightclubs, you’ll find something to keep everyone entertained in Newquay.

Sandy beaches, superb surf and spectacular coastal and countryside walks, holidays in Cubert allow you to relax, refresh and enjoy Cornwall’s great outdoors.

Holywell Bay Beach
(2 miles)

(1)

The archetypal north Cornish beach, Holywell Bay has a wide sweep of golden sand, great surf conditions and sprawling sand dunes. Stretching for a mile at low tide, there's loads of space for everyone, no matter what your ideal beach day looks like. Young families will love building sandcastles, exploring rockpools and playing in the shallow streams, surfers and bodyboarders will enjoy the consitent Atlantic swell and peace-seekers can find a quiet spot amongst the dunes to sit and read, dry off after sea swims or watch the sunset. There's also a magical cave to expore at low tide, filled with stalagmites. During the summer season, the National Trust-owned beach is covered by lifeguards, dogs are welcome all year round, and there's parking and facilities around a 5-minute walk away in Holywell village.

Lovely walk to this beautiful bay. Surf board and wetsuit hire available. As a swimmer the waves were exhilarating without there being too many bodyboarders to swim safely as in some other bays. 10min walk to toilet.

Polly Joke Beach
(2 miles)

Sheltered by Pentire Point and sandwiched between the busier beaches of Holywell Bay and Crantock beach, Porth Joke - or Polly Joke to locals - is a stunning, secluded cove. Totally unspoilt, there's a narrow sweep of fine sand and beautiful clear waters. A 15-minute walk from the nearest car park at West Pentire or Cubert Common, it's worth the effort for the peace and serenity. Like its neighbours, Polly Joke is great for swimming, bodyboarding and surfing, but beware that there's no lifeguard cover, nor facilities, so make sure to pack a picnic. At low tide, rockpools and caves are revealed, which are great fun to explore, while during the late spring and early summer, the surrounding headlands bloom with wildflowers. Porth Joke allows dogs throughout the year.

Crantock beach is a beautiful expanse of soft golden sand backed by grassy dunes on the western shore of the Gannel estuary. Owned and tended to by the National Trust, there's a car park, toilets and cafe nearby, making this a popular spot for families. Not only great for sandcastle-building and sunbathing, Crantock is popular for surfing and bodyboarding, with boards and canoes available to hire from the beach, and lifeguard cover throughout the summer season. On calm days, the turquoise seas are also well worth exploring armed with snorkel and flippers. The South West Coast Path backs the beach, leading to the famous poppy fields of Pentire Point and the secluded Polly Joke cove. Crantock is also dog-friendly all year round.

always enjoy going to Gramerci, lovely and peaceful, excellent views. Ideal fro walking and access to many beaches

September 2023

We absolutely love this property - that's why we've stayed there every year for the past 23 years! The location is ideal - close to the cliffs while also not far from local amenities and a wide range of attractions. There's a beautiful spacious garden and all you need for a comfortable self-catering stay. There's no wifi (despite there being a BT line for a payphone), but perhaps that's a good thing by enforcing more of a break from work!

July 2023

Yes always lovely to visit. Nice and relaxing

June 2023

Absolutely enjoy this place, lovely to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Great for walks, whether juts into the village or over the national trust land.

November 2021

Lovely area and some lovely secluded beaches to explore Lovely bungalow and garden. Ideal for walking.

August 2021

We find Cubert an ideal spot. There are numerous beautiful sandy beaches nearby, as well as impressive cliff walks. The village shop, local bakery (with cafe), and fish and chip shop are very handy, and larger shops are not far way. Gramerci is a spacious, comfortable bungalow with a very large garden, which is ideal for children to run and play in. The owners live next door and are extremely friendly and helpful.
