Upstairs, the three charming double bedrooms are accessed via two separate staircases. There is an en-suite shower room and dressing area within the master bedroom, and the luxuriously fitted family bathroom sits conveniently between the remaining two bedrooms.

Outside, the large private rear garden can be accessed through French doors from both the sitting room and conservatory. The bubbling hot tub is a fantastic addition, with endless fun and relaxation to be had during your stay. Hollybank Cottage is a perfect base for a family, group of friends and four-legged friends alike!

From the cottage the open Forest is a 10 minute stroll, with many walking and cycling routes to explore. Burley Villa Riding Stables are well known for traditional horse riding and American western riding, providing experienced and novice riders tracks, hacks and even BBQ trails out to the forest to ride alongside the famous free roaming ponies.

If you’re looking for a no-frills pub with friendly service and good honest food, The Wheatsheaf is worth the trip. It’s earned a solid reputation for its amazingly good value carvery and curry nights. A pleasant treat and good value for those on a budget. The staff were friendly and accommodating for those with food intolerances and happily moved the menu around to match suitability. There is a petrol station next door reasonably priced so that you can fill up ready for the next adventure.

Old Station Tea Rooms

The perfect stop when out for a walk or destination out in the forest for some scrumptious food and drink. Set on the old station line when steam trains used to ferry passengers between Sway and Burley, these tearooms have a new lease of life. Serving hearty portions of well cooked food and deliciously naughty cakes and cream teas. There’s plenty of seating inside and out on the patios.

Excellent to see a bit of the old railway still in evidence and put to such good and popular use. Even in early March the tea rooms were packed, but service still good. Would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely tea rooms on our walk, they suggest booking in advance but was able to walk in off of our walk, sat outside, nice sandwiches & good cup of tea. Hot food also served, good service would call again

August 2020

A lovely place to have breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Cakes are delicious. Individual Lemon meringue cakes the biggest I've seen! Staff very welcoming and dogs allowed. There is currently scaffolding around the building which obviously spoils the look of the place but this is only temporary so don't let it put you off.

We were disappointed that it is no longer open.

June 2023

as guests of Apple court house the gardens were available for us to browse- however, one day we found out someone had opened the gats and entered the gardens for themselves arguing that they had driven from Devon. Wrong time of year to get the advantage of the beauty but could visualise the attraction

Good selection of healthy plants for sale.

Barton on Sea
(3 miles)

(2)

A stony beach with sandy areas as the tide goes out, and a great spot to do some fossil hunting. The cliffs are subject to considerable coastal erosion and at times parts of the beach can be cordoned off. The Beachcomber Café on the cliff top is one of the most popular cafés in the region. Plenty of parking in car parks along the cliff top as well as on-road parking.

A pleasant walk along the cliff top and along the beach. There was less cliff than last time we went to the New Forest.

June 2023

Super walk, nice and easy and great place for a meal or tea and cake by the car park.

April 2019

Highcliffe Beach
Highcliffe Beach
(4 miles)

Highcliffe beach, beneath the popular Cliffhanger Restaurant is a part sandy, part pebble beach. The beach has sloping access as well as steps down to the shore from the pay and display clifftop car park. To the east, Highcliffe beach towards Barton on Sea is a part sandy beach at the foot of the second most eroded cliff in England. This side of the beach is dog-friendly all year. However do check the tide times as high tide can make it difficult to walk along the beach.

To the west towards Highcliffe Castle beach, the promenade leads across the top of the small beaches inbetween the groynes with views across Christchurch Bay and Hengistbury Head. Groynes 4-8 have dog restrictions as does the promenade during the summer months, May-September.

A family friendly beach close to Mudeford and Christchurch Harbour with plenty to do for all.  For those with disabilities or small children there is a beach level carpark, and to keep everyone safe there is a designated bathing area and a seperate area allocated for watersports, all overseen by lifeguards in the summer months.  This pretty sand and shingle beach is backed by trees and countryside and if you fancy some fresh local seafood or simply a coffee, ice cream or a cold drink, the beach is home to the excellent Noisy Lobster, serving breakfast, lunch and supper all year round.

Nice beach with good facilities

April 2023

Beautiful beach, lots of sand for youngsters- definitely been high on our favourites list, for more than 30 years and still is now the 'children' are nearly 30! - well worth the drive from New Forest. The Noisy Lobster is great and now has an 'outdoor upstairs' too. The Beach Cafe, half-way along, is excellent too- used to do very good carrot cake! The connecting beach towards Steamer Point is dog-friendly all year which is a bonus. Walking to the quay end, you can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head which is beautiful beach too and often quieter (top favourite!) Even this last week (JULY 2021) the 'kids' wanted to crab-fish from Mudeford Quay!!

August 2021

Milford on Sea
(5 miles)

(16)

A beautiful shingle beach with pretty painted beach huts, plenty of parking, and excellent coastal walks along Hurst spit to Hurst Castle with clear views of the Isle of Wight and needles. The superb Raft Rocks Restaurant is worth a visit with its Art deco style and roof terrace. You can also walk across the wildlife marshes to Keyhaven harbour and (in season) take the boat to Hurst Castle or the Isle of Wight.

Lovely sea walk within 15 minutes of the cottage.

March 2024

A lovely place to stay. So much to see and do locally and within easy reach.

August 2023

Milford on Sea is a very quintessential English village which has retained all its charm. The seafront is a delight to stroll along and The Needles Eye Cafe produces lovely coffee and lunches which is well worth a visit. A walk around Sturt Pond is also enjoyable and through to the village.

June 2023

Lovely quiet location for a beach walk. Great for watching the sea and waves without the crowds.

June 2023

Brilliant beach.

September 2022

Beautiful beach with views to The Isle of Wight. Good for swimming, picnics and walking. Very good car parking and public toilets. Lots of good places to eat and drink either next to the beach or in the village, a short walk away

July 2022

A proper gem. Great location for the new forest. The village is great and was only a short walk from our house. Not too busy or full of holiday makers. We will be back.

October 2021

One of my favourite places

July 2021

Good place to go if you have a buggy or wheelchair as there is a tarmac path along the top of the cliffs with great views of the Needles, plenty of parking and a kiosk serving refreshments.

September 2020

Lovely village with adequate shops on a very pretty green.

September 2019

Due to my husband breaking his leg we hired a mobility scooter for our holiday. It was a joy to ride along the front at Milford. Wonderful views of The Needles and lots of benches along the way too. Great access from the car parks. Would be great if the short path from Milford to Keyhaven could be the same good surface. We felt the rough stones would be too hard to ride on.

June 2019

Love Milford on Sea so old fashioned hasn't changed much since I use go as a child in the 1960/70s

April 2019

great walking area, small cafe-the needles, children climbing play park- crashing waves over stoned beach

March 2019

Great for a dog walk along the spit to Hurst Castle. Needles Eye cafe is a welcome break, quite good food but very busy and a bit basic.

December 2017

Fantastic sea location with goods pubs, shops etc

November 2017

Lovely village, plenty of shops and places to eat - no post office though.

October 2023

Hot tub for us and garden for the dog are the main selling features! 2 x local farm shops are great.

October 2023

We stayed in this beautiful cottage last week and what a gem it was too! From the moment we pulled onto the drive we knew we'd made the right choice. The furnishings throughout the cottage were exceptional and every need was catered for especially as we had our daughter, son-in-law and 10 month old grandson with us. The owners have thought of everything, from stairgate to towel especially for our little dog! The garden is large and completely secluded which makes using the hot tub even better, the hot tub was lovely and relaxing after a busy day exploring. We will definitely be coming back to this beautiful cottage and cannot recommend this property enough. Weather was great too. Just perfect

August 2023

We did overall really enjoy our stay in a lovely house. It did feel like a home, rather than a soulless holiday let. The kitchen was very well equipped, and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The location for the forest and coast was ideal.

May 2023

The third bedroom really needs some proper blinds or curtains and the door does not stay closed . However the cottage was wonderful furniture fab lots of space and comfortable. Garden was lovely and we really appreciated the dishwasher tabs washing power ,washing up liquid , cookies and wine . Also the lovely toiletries in bathrooms . Plenty of parking too and great communication .

February 2023

We had a wonderful stay - a really gorgeous house.

July 2022

I loved this cottage and fully intend to stay again. It is fitted to a very high standard and the garden is beautiful (note to dog owners: the garden is fully enclosed and secure which is great). The location is brilliant, easy access to Forest, Beach and Towns whilst still being off the beaten track enough to be peaceful. The garden is private thanks to the mature trees and hedges and the Hot Tub is highly recommended. The owners couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. I had a great holiday here, thank you.

June 2022

Just back from a fabulous week at Hollybank Cottage. The cottage is beautiful, loads of space and everything that you could possibly need for a wonderful week away. The house and garden were very classy and wonderful to relax in and the location was perfect for days out at the beach or in the forest. There were loads of lovely touches that made you feel like a valued guest, from excellent communication and help to find the property in the dark, lovely toiletries throughout the house (including for the children) and our dog enjoyed a bed and fleece blanket especially for him along with some treats. Wine, biscuits, milk and teas/coffee were all there to welcome us. The hot tub/spa was huge, positioned amongst fox gloves in the secluded garden and perfect for relaxing after a busy day. We would highly recommend this cottage and will definitely return for a relaxing break with every need catered for - Thank you

May 2022

This is a most beautiful cottage, with a large well looked after garden in a beautiful location near small villages and the sea. The kitchen is very well equipped and the property in decorated at very high standards. Very calming place and impecably clean. We had the most relaxing stay in years! After being there, every weekend I hear my kids asking: 'Mummy, I miss the cottage, the flowers and my large bed! When can we go back?' ...We hope to be back soon!
