Miss Martha’s Cottage, nestled within the heart of Polperro is only a minute or two from the picturesque harbourside, and close to all of the varied shops, cafes, inns and restaurants that this quintessential fishing village has to offer.  Arranged over two floors, above a traditional sweetie shop, the cottage has recently been tastefully refurbished throughout to deliver bright and airy, spacious and comfortable accommodation.

Entered via a covered porch, the well-appointed, beamed sitting room is decorated in restful hues and offers tranquil surroundings from which to observe passers by through the sash window overlooking the main village street.  The well equipped kitchen/diner, also on this level, provides a welcoming space to enjoy a morning coffee, and the property presents a pleasant and peaceful ambience, which should enable the most enthusiastic rock climber or beachcomber to relax at the end of a busy day at the seaside.

Guests can enjoy all of the local amenities, including the picturesque Polperro harbour and scenic cliff path walks only a few steps away from the front gate, whilst a trip to nearby Looe offers the familiar attractions of a small seaside town.  In addition, the many fishing villages, historic towns and legendary beaches which are scattered further afield along the North and South Cornwall coastline are easily accessible by car.

Approximately ten steps with hand rail lead to the front entrance.  Sitting room with two sofas (one a sofa bed), woodburner effect electric fire, flat screen 42” TV with Freeview and DVD.   Kitchen/diner with dining table to seat four, dishwasher, washing machine, integral electric oven/hob and microwave. Off the kitchen is a large larder area with fridge/freezer and shelves for storage, washing machine.  Stairs up to first floor.  To the left, Double bedroom with 4ft 6in double bed, built-in wardrobe, dressing table with mirror over.  To the right, Second double bedroom with twin zip and link beds, enabling the main bedroom to be either 2 single beds or one 5ft King size bed plus built-in wardrobe and dressing table/mirror.  Bathroom with bath and shower attachment, hand-basin and WC.

There is no designated parking space for this cottage. Toad Hall have 3 parking spaces in the village available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also parking available in the main town car park.

  • Included: WiFi, Bed linen and towels provided (but no beach towels), electricity, heating (night storage). Storage downstairs for children’s buggies.
  • Telephone: No land line..  Mobile reception poor/average (Orange and T-Mobile/EE fairly good). 
  • Local Facilities:  Polperro beach 2 minutes walk. Talland beach 1 mile. Other south coast beaches easily accessible by car. Shops, pubs and restaurants all in Polperro. Looe with more facilities, 4 miles. Plymouth 25 miles. Truro 29 miles.

we did not want to leave! such a lovely little place, perfect size, perfect location... bit of a walk to the town car park but pretty much to be expected in such a tiny village and we did use the tram once which was fun. was surprised and delighted to find so many utensils, gadgets and bits n bobs ...was a real home from home...even some basic necessities were waiting which meant we didn't need to go shopping immediately. A real lovely little place, very comfortable and we are planning to rebook next year.

Yes, it was lovely and the property made us feel very much at home. Sometimes one could hear the people in the shop below but again that was not a big issue.

Unfortunately, on the day I chose to phone THC to arrange key pick up, the phones were down. Additionally, on the printed information, the telephone number was one number short. But, it all turned out in the end and THC returned my call at a later point.

The "cottage" is extremely well presented and equipped. If there's one thing that lets it down it's the outside ourtyard. I realise that this is a shared space but it would benefit from being swept from time to time as this is the first thing to greet a guest each time they arrive. Other than that I have only posititive comments in that its cleanliness puts most continental properties I have rented to shame and it has everything I needed for a comfortable holiday.
