We booked a table here online for Boxing Day lunch but when we arrived they told us they don’t take bookings. Luckily they had a table and we enjoyed a really good pub meal. Nice clean environment, dogs welcome. Friendly staff. We had a wander after lunch to shake the meal down, lovely old church and pretty village. Easy to park.

This is a fantastic place to eat . We had been here previously when it was literally a shack - prone to strong winds and gales! However it is now ensconced in much more solid and permanent surroundings. The food is excellent - a wonderful choice of seafood dishes - all freshly prepared . It’s a new look on the outside but the food very much of the same high quality at the Britannia in Beesands. The new ‘shack’ doesn’t really do it justice with a completely renovated contemporary dining room in keeping with the seaside location and beach hut vibe with excellent views of the bay. There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been. ????????

We did have a bit of luck we had just got there after a 5 hour drive not knowing it was closed and they were putting food in car oh the smell it was so good that's when they told us about colseing down. The best food by a mile in this area of South Devon. We had a lovely evening sat on a bench opposite - we brought our own wine as there's no licence (but this saves on costs!). We had the freshly caught and cooked lobster, 'crack-your-own' crab, and a beautiful bowl of mussels. The lady owner or manager couldn't have been more helpful - we turned up on a Friday night with no reservation, and she went out of her way to accommodate us. If you only go to one place to eat whilst on holiday in the area, then it has to be here. Yes, rustic. Yes, simple. But simple fresh food, cooked amazingly well....and what a view!!! Go with friends and make an evening of it! Cannot recommend highly enough!!

Good selection of drinks, exceptional food (& I mean exceptional), seaview like nowhere else & all in a modern setting which still retains the history of the village. The food is absolutely fine - typical pub fare - a bit formulaic - but perfectly acceptable. the service was quite good but they did bring our coffees before the desserts - which was odd. The main courses were quite good but we didn't rate the desserts - disappointing.

Would highly recommend negotiating the lanes to Beesands to have a meal at the Cricket Inn. Although this is a great property in a wonderful place for a holiday, the standard of cleanliness is well below the standards one should expect when paying premium price, the wooden floor needs serious attention as it has ingrained dirt, leaving my crawling grandchild with filthy legs and feet despite my mopping to try and clean it. The vacuum was full of smelly dog hair, the toaster had not been cleaned and neither was the tumble drier which included the previous guests knickers! The internal windows and mirrors all need a thorough clean too! I’m very dissapointed with the standard particularly with the Covid 19 situation and with the response of THC, who seem to think it’s ok!

Visited on a sunny morning in May so quite busy. We were greeted at the entrance, seated inside then left. No menu provided, I had to ask for it. A couple who arrived well after us had their order taken first. We waited for ages. Although Start Point was not open at the time, we were not disappointed, the coastal walk was lovely, as we got nearer to the lighthouse, we stood and watched in amazement at the tuna fish jumping high out of the water. We stayed for a week in a house opposite the beach in Beesands. The beach is a pebble beach and is very quiet. There is no lifeguard but there are locals there everyday with their boats so I am sure they would let you know if the conditions were unsafe. There is a fish and chip shop/restaurant and 1 pub restaurant - both serving lovely food and offer very friendly service. There is very little nearby so you do need a car to get around. Nearest supermarket was around 20-30 minute car ride away. The kids went in the sea almost every day and had the best time! They wore full wetsuits and water shoes which I thoroughly recommend as it is a pebble beach, and the kids got stung by a jelly fish when they paddled without wetsuits. When the tide was in, or coming in, the kids felt safer as they were in their depth. When the tide is out, there is a ledge which drops quite sharply. I am not a fan of sand so sitting on my camping chair on the pebble beach was bliss for me. We even spotted seals on most days! The locals with their boats didn't seem too friendly but we loved watching them take their boats out and bring them back in again. It was fascinating. I would have loved to ask them more about the beach, tides and coastal erosion but they didn't seem very approachable. However, I do appreciate that they must find tourists a little irritating. I would absolutely go back to Beesands for a holiday. It is my idea of blissful relaxation.

Absolute delight to stay in this quiet little seaside village! Mostly holiday let properties nowadays but still some locals around to talk to about the history of the area. I love Beesands . The only sad thing is even more people have found out about it, 10 years since my last visit. Sadly the sea has removed the road handy for parking and is gradually eroding the cliff edges. Not as quiet as it used to be but the attractions of two nice eating places have probably increased the footfall.

It’s a new look on the outside but the food very much of the same high quality at the Britannia in Beesands. The new ‘shack’ doesn’t really do it justice with a completely renovated contemporary dining room in keeping with the seaside location and beach hut vibe with excellent views of the bay. There seems to be loads more space too and the higher ceiling gives light to the treats being served from the kitchen. Dave and the team in the kitchen maintain their high standards of food preparation and making dishes that look and taste fantastic, the front of house team are equally as attentive making a great relaxed dining experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Britannia so come back if you have been before and see the changes or give it a go if you never have been. ????????

I've been coming to Beesands since I was 2 years old (61 now!). Not every year since adulthood but still can't stay away. Its an ideal location for those who want to get away from it all. Its close enough to Kingsbridge and within easy reach of Dartmouth , Salcombe and Brixham. The locals are very friendly and will always be up for a chat. Its almost tempting to keep this little coastal secret to myself!

We've been coming to this general area for over 20 years now and have stayed in many of the surrounding villages . This was the first time we'd stayed in Beesands - but we had walked through it on our coastal walks on many, many occasions. We both loved the peaceful charm of the place - secluded , tranquil and away from it all . But unlike Hallsands (next village along) , it does have two places where you can eat ( The cricket Inn and the Britannia0)and they are both very good . The beach is great - shingle - but really uncrowded in June . ( We were lucky with the weather) and on a clear,sunny day - it is quite magical. ( What a shame the water is so freezing cold !!) This stretch of coastline is stunning - and even if you do no other walks - walk over to Hallsands and read about the old village that was washed away in January 1917 - or just drink in the stunning views . I love this part of Devon and it never fails to take my breath away when you stand on the coast path near the lighthouse and look back across Start Bay to Hallsands , Beesands , Torr Cross , and over towards Dartmouth. Wonderful.

A stunning coastline well worth a visit. If you drive along the coast road from Dartmouth the views are incredible. Slapton Sands is a shingle beach and dog friendly. If the first car park is busy continue further on and the next one is usually quieter, payment required.

Lannacombe is a lovely beach! The beach is gentle and slopes nicely into the sea. We swam in October and it was beautiful. If you haven’t been there are no facilities and only parking for about 8-9 cars so get there early in peak season. It’s on the SW Coast path and we have walked from East Prawle though takes a while. Fabulous beach. Keep it to yourself!

A fabulous beach. Especially great fun at low tide for a water loving Labrador. We enjoyed our visits here. We also loved the passenger ferry from here to Salcombe. Beautiful beach.

Beautiful beach lovely and clean. Small car park free to N.T. members. Highly recommended. Drawback no immediate café available. Venus café nearest but a trek if not mobile.

Lovely beach well worth a visit. Dog friendly as well. Well worth the £7-50 national trust car parking fee.

amazing beach, dog friendly, only downside is the toilets near the National Trust hut are very poor
