Just north of the beach you’ll find the remains of an Iron Age hill fort on Trevelgue Head, better known as Porth Island, which is well worth exploring.

Everyone from complete beginners to seasoned pros will love surfing in Newquay, and there are plenty of surf schools and places to hire wetsuits and boards.

The beautiful headland trails of the South West Coast Path run through Porth, so whether you’re a serious rambler or simply want to explore the coastline, make sure to pack your trainers and walk to Newquay, or towards Watergate Bay beach and beyond, while soaking up the far-reaching sea views. Speaking of beaches, you’ll find no end of beautiful bays nearby - Crantock, Holywell Bay, Perranporth and Mawgan Porth are all only a short drive away.

But there’s plenty more to see and do than visit the beach. Families will love the zoo, aquarium, cinema, bowling and soft play areas in Newquay. In Porth, you’ll find a lovely selection of places to eat, from beachy cafes to a cosy pub, the Mermaid Inn.
