Description
Tucked away down a country lane on the outskirts of Cubert Village, near Crantock is Tewennow Cottage (Cornish for sand dunes), a fabulous holiday cottage for two.
The cottage has been beautifully presented for holiday letting and is a clever mix of old meets new with some lovely personal touches added by the owners.
If you are looking for a romantic break away or just a chance to getaway, unwind and recharge the batteries then Tewennow Cottage is for you!
The wonderful golden beach and impressive towering sand dunes at Holywell Bay are within a mile's walk from the cottage or less than a five-minute drive by car. There is a National Trust car park in Holywell Bay for the beach with the Gulls Rock Bar and Coffee House opposite. The rather lovely Treguth Inn with its thatched roof is on the Holywell Road heading down from Cubert towards the beach in Holywell.
In Cubert itself (which is just half a mile from Tewennow Cottage) is a convenience store with post office, fish and chip shop and terrific bakery with café serving homemade cakes, biscuits, pasties, savoury snacks and drinks……..well worth a few visits during your stay!
Just on the edge of Cubert village you will find the hugely popular Smugglers Den Inn serving lunches and evening meals throughout the week and a pretty good carvery on a Sunday too. The neighbouring village of Crantock boasts a lovely beach and selection of good pubs and is again well worth a visit. Crantock is just 2 miles away.
A little further along heading northwards is Newquay and of course its many splendid beaches including the world famous Fistral beach. You will arrive in Newquay at the Trenance garden and boating lake end with Zoo and Leisure World nearby.
Southwards from Cubert in just 7 miles, you will discover Perranporth with its huge beach and numerous beachside eateries, pubs and cafes.

(1)
The archetypal north Cornish beach, Holywell Bay has a wide sweep of golden sand, great surf conditions and sprawling sand dunes. Stretching for a mile at low tide, there's loads of space for everyone, no matter what your ideal beach day looks like. Young families will love building sandcastles, exploring rockpools and playing in the shallow streams, surfers and bodyboarders will enjoy the consitent Atlantic swell and peace-seekers can find a quiet spot amongst the dunes to sit and read, dry off after sea swims or watch the sunset. There's also a magical cave to expore at low tide, filled with stalagmites. During the summer season, the National Trust-owned beach is covered by lifeguards, dogs are welcome all year round, and there's parking and facilities around a 5-minute walk away in Holywell village.
Lovely walk to this beautiful bay. Surf board and wetsuit hire available. As a swimmer the waves were exhilarating without there being too many bodyboarders to swim safely as in some other bays. 10min walk to toilet.

Sheltered by Pentire Point and sandwiched between the busier beaches of Holywell Bay and Crantock beach, Porth Joke - or Polly Joke to locals - is a stunning, secluded cove. Totally unspoilt, there's a narrow sweep of fine sand and beautiful clear waters. A 15-minute walk from the nearest car park at West Pentire or Cubert Common, it's worth the effort for the peace and serenity. Like its neighbours, Polly Joke is great for swimming, bodyboarding and surfing, but beware that there's no lifeguard cover, nor facilities, so make sure to pack a picnic. At low tide, rockpools and caves are revealed, which are great fun to explore, while during the late spring and early summer, the surrounding headlands bloom with wildflowers. Porth Joke allows dogs throughout the year.

Our week long stay at Tewennow Cottage was perfect. Located in beautiful rural surroundings, it was an ideal spot close to so many key places to visit. The Smugglers Den Inn, a 16th century pub, served great food and is easily accessed via a public footpath only a 20 minute walk away. Fish n chips from the local village is a must with a convenience store and post office situated right next door. Holywell beach is a hidden gem only 15 minute walk away with the amazing sand dunes and Atlantic ocean all on your doorstep. It is definitely worth visiting Newquay, only a couple of miles away and its famous Fistral beach and Tehidy National Park, St Michael's Mount, St Ives, St Agnes, Falmouth and Tintagel Castle all under an hour's drive. The cottage itself was absolutely beautiful, a luxurious romantic setting for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle. The owners Debbie and Lloyd could not have made us more welcome. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, fresh scones with jam and clotted cream and so much more!! It was such a warm welcome and they were always on hand next door if there was anything that we needed. Such a lovely couple! They thought of every little detail which made our stay even more special. So many more things to do and places to visit, we would definitely come back to this hidden gem in Cubert!
