NEW PROPERTY for 2024

If you are looking for a holiday home with sea views, then Trebarfoote has the most glorious sea and river views looking out across to Fowey, Readymoney Cove and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Set in an elevated position yet tucked away in a quiet pocket of Polruan, Trebarfoote offers the perfect location for a relaxing family or couples holiday.  Oh, and by the way, access to the coastal footpath is right on your doorstep!

The village of Polruan has a couple of charming, traditional pubs as well as village store and lovely cafe. The foot passenger ferry across to Fowey operates all year round with later crossing times during the season. The car ferry across to Fowey from Polruan leaves from Bodinnick (3 miles away) and again operates all year round - (both services are likely not to operate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

Nearby Lantic Bay beach (known as the hidden gem) is a fantastic beach owned by the National Trust and is just over a mile from Polruan.  Dog friendly all year round, this wonderfully sheltered cove with golden sand is a terrific place to enjoy some much needed downtime.  Check out this link for further information regarding access, parking and beach facilities - https://www.cornwallbeachguide.co.uk/secornwall/lantic/lantic.htm

Bodinnick was home to Daphne du Maurier and her family and is where she wrote her first novel, The Loving Spirit.  The family home, Ferryside, is unmistakeable from the water with its famous blue shutters and cream walls.

Once you have enjoyed your time in Fowey with its bustling high street with pubs, cafes and restaurants, heading back across the water to the more quiet Polruan is what so many of its loyal visitors love.

Polruan has a couple of small beaches (Quay beach and Back beach), the latter being the better of the two. Whilst small, this largely sandy beach provides a welcome sandy spot for families.  Please be aware, that the beaches are tidal and will disappear at high tide!

The picturesque village Polperro and its lively neighbour Looe are a short 6 and 10 mile drive from Polruan.

Further afield are the must visit attractions - Lost Gardens of Heligan and of course The Eden Project which are 24 and 17 miles respectively from Polruan.

Entrance

Seven, wide and shallow concrete steps lead up to the entrance door from the parking area. Once inside, you are greeted by a large hallway with hooks for coats and ample space for boots, shoes and of course flip flops!

Open Plan Living Area

The ground floor is mainly laid to open plan with the comfy living space, dining area and kitchen all boasting views out across to Fowey. Two sets of sliding doors lead out onto the glass fronted balcony. The living and dining space has ample seating, feature wood burner for cosy nights in and SMART TV with DVD player.

Kitchen

Kitchen appliances include a double oven, grill, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, separate wine fridge, dishwasher and Gusto coffee machine. A washer/dryer is provided within the basement of the property.

Bedroom 1

Staying on the ground floor you have a double bedroom which overlooks the garden to the rear with Fowey river views to one side.

Bathroom

Next to the double bedroom is a family bathroom WC with shower over bath.

Bedroom 2

The spacious main bedroom with king size bed has sea and river views from every window.

Bedroom 3

The twin bedroom again has a good degree of space and more of those super views.

Bathroom

Family bathroom WC with a bath with separate shower cubicle.

General

  • This property is heated via oil fired central heating with wood burner providing supplementary heating.
  • Accessed externally, the basement is where you will find your washer/dryer and children's pool table.
  •  Space in basement for the storage of bikes and beach gear.

There is a decked and glass fronted balcony off the living room with furniture provided to take in those amazing views.  There is also lawn garden to the front and back of the property.

If you’re looking for a tranquil seaside setting, you’re sure to love a holiday in Polruan. Built on a steep hill on the mouth of the River Fowey, Polruan is an ancient fishing village and boat-building hub, filled with seaside charm. It’s secluded and unspoilt - the perfect place to relax and unwind. Set across the harbour from its busier neighbour Fowey, Polruan is surrounded by water on three sides, so unsurprisingly holidays here revolve around the sea.

Start your Polruan holiday by waking up to the sight of the water from an old fisherman’s cottage, then spend your day sailing, kayaking or swimming, enjoying creamy Cornish ice creams and crabbing from the quay - you’ll find all the supplies in the quirkily named ‘Winkle Picker’ shop. If you’re a more serious angler, you’ll find plenty of fish in the sea here, including John Dory, mackerel, mullet and bass.

Polruan is situated on a very steep hill,  access to some parts of the village can be challenging. Many of the amenities, ferries and cottages in Polruan are accessed via steps and slopes some of which can be steep.

Hop on the ferry to Fowey where you’ll find a wonderful choice of places to eat, from swanky waterfront seafood restaurants and cosy Cornish pubs to bakeries and crab sandwich shacks. Spend time browsing the many boutiques, independent shops and art galleries, then follow the esplanade to Readymoney Cove. This sandy beach is beautifully sheltered, ideal for swimming, sunbathing and sand-free picnics. While in Fowey, you can also hire a little motor boat and explore the stunning surroundings at your own pace, dropping anchor wherever you like.

Back in Polruan, you can join the spectacular clifftop tracks of the South West Coast Path from the top of the village. One of our must-dos when on holiday in Polruan is to follow the coast path to Lantic Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches around, with white sand crystal clear waters. If you’re feeling energetic, hike further still to pretty Polperro and its white-washed cottages.

During your stay, make sure to visit Polruan’s tiny neighbouring village of Bodinnick with its lovely waterside pub, the Old Ferry Inn. It’s here that Daphne du Maurier lived and where she wrote her first novel. In fact, her family still lived in the very same waterfront house, Ferryside. Today, you can celebrate her life and works at Fowey’s annual Festival of Arts and Literature.

From Polruan, you can also visit Charlestown harbour, famed by Poldark, the bustling fishing port of Mevagissey and the world-famous biomes of the Eden Project.

There is private parking directly in front of the property for 2 cars.  Care will need to be taken with larger cars as the approach roads are narrow but nonetheless, possible. Please contact the office if you require further information.

The reasonably priced long stay (St Saviours Hill) car park is located just a few minutes walk from Trebarfoote if additional parking is required. The car park from Trebarfoote can be accessed by either walking along the coastal footpath or back along Battery Lane and up St Saviours Hill.

- This property welcomes 2 dogs of any size - NB - the garden is not fully dog proof and your dog/s will need to be supervised when using the outside space.  **Dogs STAY FREE in 2024!

- This property accommodates a maximum of 6 people plus infant

St Catherine's Castle
(Less than a mile)

An English Heritage property built in the 1530s, St Catherine's Castle is an early artillery fort overlooking the River Fowey that formed part of the comprehensive system of coastal defense begun by Henry VIII after his break with the Church of Rome.  It continued to be modified right up to the Second World War when it still proved useful as part of a more extensive battery, and as a result, it demonstrates well how military architecture, technology and defensive tactics developed over a period of 400 years.  It’s open throughout the year, is free to visit at “any reasonable time during daylight hours” – so there you have it.

Fowey Aquarium
(Less than a mile)

(2)

Fowey is a delightful, historic town in Cornwall and its aquarium is a chance to glimpse marine life from the Cornish coast up close.  Small but perfectly formed, the aquarium is brimming with opportunities to learn, playing host to a wide range of fish from the tiny gobies and shannies from the shallows, up to conger eels which inhabit deep wrecks.  First established in 1952, the aquarium still retains many of the original tanks. Fresh sea water is pumped in daily at high tide and the filtration is minimal, while the majority of fish are obtained locally from fishermen and anglers.  A joy for children and adults, opening times vary so check the website before you visit, and prices start at £4 for adults and £2.50 for children.

What a cute little place this is! When the children were younger we stayed in Fowey every year, and the first thing they always wanted to do was visit the aquarium. It has a small touch pond as well. But - it is TINY - literally in one large room. So as long as you understand it is what it is, you won't be disappointed. A nice way to spend 30 mins when in Fowey but don't go just for this.

Polruan Back Beach
(Less than a mile)

In the heart of Polruan, Back Beach is not short of facilities and nearby shops and restaurants.  A pretty little beach that’s popular with families, it has beautiful views across the river to Fowey and is a lovely place to watch the world go by with all the boats pottering along in front of you.  It’s predominantly a sand beach, leading to a sheltered section of the river, so it’s good for swimming, but there aren’t any lifeguards around.  The only complication for access is that it’s very difficult to park in the village, and it’s a considerable walk down the steep hill from the car park at St Saviours, or a ferry ride across the river from Fowey.  Therefore, it’s best to combine a visit with a day exploring the village itself to make the most of it.

Lantivet Bay
(2 miles)

(1)

Between Polruan and Polperro along the coastal path, Lantivet Bay is only accessible at low tide when a sand and pebble beach is revealed.  Parking is in the National Trust car park at Polruan, where there are toilets as well, but there aren’t any facilities closer to the beach itself.  Dogs are allowed all year round, which is lovely as it’s the perfect beach to incorporate into a walk.  The National Trust recommends a charming circular route, starting in the car park and taking in 2.4 miles of beautiful bays and surrounding landscape, and giving you the chance to explore the area with its rich smuggling heritage.
