The Old School House is a stunning Grade 2 listed property set within its own grounds, and enjoys a wonderful outlook across the village of Powerstock.  Once a Victorian school, this light and spacious holiday home which has retained many original features, combined with high quality furnishings this makes a very special place to stay. Perfect for families and group celebrations with the added convenience of two nearby village pubs, both with a good reputation for food.  The large sitting/dining room provides a fabulous social space with  the addition of a Woodburner for those colder day, the large private garden at the back of the house is perfect for barbecues and al fresco dining in the warmer season.  

The Old School House is an ideal base from which to explore the Jurassic Coast and all it has to offer.  West Bay which featured on the TV drama Broadchurch is only five miles away and the spectacular World Heritage Coastline is within easy driving distance.  Lyme Regis and Charmouth (famous for fossils), Abbotsbury, and the county town of Dorchester a short drive away and the lively market town of Bridport with it's an array of eclectic shops, art deco cinema, arts centre and every Wednesday and Saturday the famous street market selling artisan food and bric-a-brac

For those who love walks and nature you could not be in a better place with walks in every direction, Head to Eggardon Hill which lies about 1.5 miles south-east of the village. On the summit is a 14 hectare Iron Age Hill Fort with amazing views of Dorset AONB & Lyme Bay, or discover the ancient woodland of Powerstock Common.  Circular walks from Powerstock takes in large sections of disused railway line, ideal for cycling. 

The  popular beach of West Bay is only 5 miles away on the Jurassic Coast and there are other attractions close by to suit all tastes including the Sub Tropical Gardens of Abbotsbury, fishing trips, fossil hunting at Charmouth, horse riding and much more.  The Three Horseshoes and The Marquis of Lorne offers good Dorset food, within walking distance of the School.

Steps from the parking area lead to a rear door entrance and hallway.  This leads to a big sitting room with sofas, seating, large armchair Woodburner, first basket of logs supplied (October to April), Smart TV, Blue-Ray DVD player, Stereo system and dining table for 8 guests.  Additional access to the rear garden and patio from the lounge.  The Kitchen is equipped with built in double oven and ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer, Dolce Gusto machine and microwave.  Breakfast table seats extends to seat eight guests.  Utility room with washer/dryer and freezer.  Groundfloor W.C.

Stairs to Bedroom 1 with 4ft 6inch double bed.   Bedroom 2 with twin 3ft beds and cot.  Bedroom 3 with with 4ft 6inch double bed and Jack and Jill access to the Family bathroom with shower over bath, W.C. and wash basin.  Bedroom 4 with impressive glass stained windows and views of the village.  Zip & link beds give a choice of super kingsize or twin beds.  Shower room with W.C. and washbasin.  Some of the flooring maybe uneven in parts of this listed building.


Large expanse of lawn to the front of the property with a private driveway approach.  To the rear of the property is a large walled garden area with private lawn and sunny, full-length patio area, 8 person picnic bench with seating, parasol, BBQ and additional outdoor seating.

Please note that a gardener will attend the property between 5pm and 6pm every Saturday; and that from the entrance gate to the school gate is a footpath, used by the school children and parents to avoid using the road.

Private driveway leads to unlimited parking by the property.

We loved it. Exceptional trip. Walking from the front door was a huge hit for us. The peace and beauty of the location touched us all. Tina was kind and solicitous. The house is one of a kind, we loved its architecture and huge proportions and felt completely comfortable and at home.

Had a fantastic week in the house. Tina was great and on hand to help with a larger cooking pot and blender! Beautiful house in a great location, village pub 2 mins walk away was great and friendly. Would hope to visit again.
